Yes... agreed. I can't believe how much more the CDI pollutes. The other thing to consider is that the RH idles quietly. The diesels clatter loudly and that's quite annoying. As Mol mentioned too, there's the reliability issue. Mercedes have lately been quite horrible in their reliability. Even their own executives admit it. They don't even sell the CDI here because no one would buy it. Diesels are a hard sell here in the US. Give me the reliability of a Lexus any day over Mercedes. If I want to go mudding, I'll get a Kawasaki.

I guess you don't follow the car business very close. The E320 CDI is selling very well in the USA. As a matter of fact 50% more than projected.

They don't sell the ML CDI here. No one would pay that kind of money for something that will break down all the time.

"Maybe you should show some evidence that the CDI is more polluting than the RH using ULSD in the diesel."
Well, anyone going to answer gagrice on this one?
People seem to forget that the European CDI is not the same as the US models due the to ULSD sold over there.

The Lexus will emit 192g/km whereas the 320CDI will emit 202g/km. This is excellent for a diesel but unfortunately there are lots more oxides of nitrogen as well as soot particles. Numerous studies suggest that the soot particles further exacerbate the greenhouse effect. As much as I'd like to see this technology in less expensive smaller cars, I can't endorse it just yet.

RX400H is not the most fuel efficient SUV! Read the test drive comparison above!

That's good but the CDI pollutes more (albeit less than in the past). You still can't buy it in CA, NY, MA and VT. What does that tell you? Diesel is more expensive than regular (for the time being). If the reliability is similar to the Liberty diesel watch out!! I would like a small diesel engine in the A car brought to the states. PLEASE MAKE IT AS RELIABLE AS THE ASIANS!!!
