Replying to: falconone (May 07, 2005 5:44 pm) Also, regarding the price of the 400h, I agree with those who posted here that Lexus probably decided not to offer certain options due to the already high cost of the vehicle. Also, I read somewhere that the Laser Cruise Control is not a big seller but I have no first-hand knowledge of that. |

Regarding AWD, that is the only choice for RX 400h while there are other choices for the HH. Another significant factor to many drivers is the good performance of the RX 400h over the RX 330 and I suppose, the HH. Many RX 400h drivers report how much more powerful the 400h is over the RX 330. I read somewhere that the label 400h indicates a performance more like a 4 Liter engine while the 330 is a 3.3 Liter and performs like that. I still am interested in buying a base model of the HH later. Right now, I am very happy with the RX 400h I bought after experiencing the luxury and the safety of that car. I compared the HH Limited model with the RX 400h and could easily see that the difference in price was substantiated quite a bit by the features on the 400h. Also, many of the items on the 400h like floor mats are included while Toyota charges for this and these "little charges" add up substantially in the HH price. The other big factor in comparison is fuel consumption. From reading a variety of Forums, it seems to me that the HH provides maybe 2 - 4 more miles to the gallon. |

| We certainly relished the idea of spending $8K to $10K less on the HH verses the 400h, and getting a useful (to us with two children) third seat as well. However, after a couple of test drives in each of the 330 and the Highlander, we found the suspension and ergonomics of the Lexus vastly superior and took the plunge. I can't say we have any regrets as of yet. I rarely here of this difference in handling and ride in comparisons, but it was the deciding factor for us. | |

The reason the RX400h will be a hard sell in Europe. The Mercedes ML 320 CDI was compared with the Lexus RX 400h and, over the course of the run, the Mercedes was 11% more fuel efficient at 31.0 mpg compared to 27.7 mpg for the Lexus. More surprisingly, the testers said that the hybrid was only 1.7% more efficient around town at 24.56 mpg compared to 24.12 mpg. http://motoring.reuters.co.uk/reuters/vocmain.jsp?lnk=101&id=1306

| My neighbor down the street is making biodiesel in his garage at about .50 a gallon. He uses it in two late model mercedes diesels and an aging peugeout. He has had the mercs running on 100% biofuel for months now. He also mentioned diesel cars are in short supply in the pacific northwest, he found his second mercedes on e bay, took delivery two weeks ago, its been a great car. It would be so nice to make a biofuel in your garage and give up the gas stations for good. | |
