Postive Buying Experience for MD/VA/DC region by apg97ss

Hello:
First of all my great thanks to Rockville1 on this site. You lead to me a good deal with a dealer who was a straight shooter, offered a fair price, and provided excellent delivery exprience. I took Rockville1's homework and did a similar deal ($45,700+TTL) on the common 49,866 msrp nav/awd version through internet manager at Towson Lexus. For me, it was 60mile drive but worth it. Dealership was very professional, never played games, was willing to do all the bidding and Q&A process via e-mail. Took all the stress out of being under the hot lights and games with typical dealer experience. Any DC people out there, suggest you work with Towson Lexus. You will save big bucks and get good experience. Thanks to all at this site for the help. Particulary, Rockville1. I owe you and your wife a nice dinner (as soon as i figure out how to contact you).

42,687 + TTL. However, mine is a FWD and the standard stereo sysem so 46,000 doesn't seem to bad. the best approach i've heard and observed is to get all those fees nailed down precisely, go get a check made out to the dealer for the amount under invoice you really want to pay and then go hand it to them and see if they accept it. this works better at the end of the month when they are willing to deal a little more loosely and see the money in front of them. if they say they can't do it, offer them the same amount but also throw in you'll finance with them as a courtesy. just a thought.

I'd like to second everything apg97ss said. It turns out that we both crossed paths at the Towson dealership as we were purchasing our new RX400hs! The Towson dealership really made purchasing the vehicle a pleasure and it was definitely the best car-buying experience I have gone through. As apg97ss mentioned, the price quoted via email was indeed the actual price (+TTL) with no extra fees.

Apg97ss, I'm glad that you found the info I posted useful in getting your new Lexus. Very generous of you to offer the dinner, but no need to do that. But, I'll see if I can reply to your post to your email so we can chat further.

Take care,

Brian

Good for you guys.

However, back in Sept, I had a bad experience with Towson (see previous postings)
I couldn't get their price down below $47K on a 2006.

I wind up getting a 2007 AWD/nav etc from Ray Catena from NJ for $46.7K instead.
Basically a 2007 for less than what Towson was selling me for a 2006? - go figure.
(Keeping in mind the 2007 was just arriving on the east coast)

You DC guys buying from Baltimore, did Towson mentioned the initial 5k service maintenence being free regardless of where you take the 400h to service at?

Not that I'm near DC at all, but my understanding was the 5k service was more of a factory deal, and hence it doesn't matter which dealer you take it too.

Sorry to hear that Towson didn't work out for you. Perhaps it was the specific sales person. We worked with the internet sales manager at Towson and he was great.

He did indeed mention that the 5K service could be done at any Lexus dealearship. If only I could get the free car washes at any dealership!! I'm acutally in Rockville, MD, so I will take advantage of the car washes from time to time, but not as often as if I had bought from the Rockville dealership. I really wanted to buy from Rockville, but they just couldn't come close to the deal we got at Towson.

I remember asking the floor manager (not the salesman) why shouldn't I buy the 400h elsewhere when a few thousand $$ cheaper, his response was free car wash a & loaner car when serviced.

I always wondered if that was just a marketing perks or anyone who had their 400h service there would get the same treatment, regardless of where they brought the car from...

I passed by the Towson car wash bay occasionally - is it self service or do they ask for an approval code first?

My understaning after just reading the Lexus customer service document, is that you can get the loaner car from whatever dealear does the service, no matter where you bought it. However, there are qualifying conditions, including that it has to require that the car be left overnight for service or require 8 hours or more (something like that - I have to read it again). You can't just bring it in for an oil change or simple repair to get the loaner.

I don't know how the Towson car wash works as I haven't used it yet (they told me to bring it to customer service, so I'm assuming they wash rather than a drive thru). I'm guessing someone enters the VIN to be sure you purchased the car there. They didn't give me any kind of approval code.

That's my understanding, too, about the loaner car. We just had the 5K service last week, and the car sounds better. The car wash was nothing much to speak of. The outside was streaky, and they forgot to vacuum the inside, until my wife asked them to. Better than nothing, still.

Has anyone bought the 400h from Lindsey Lexus in Alexandria Va? If so, what was your experience, and what did you end up paying (what it included, including color)?
