First, wow annasf! Do you mean that you got $5500 off the sticker, or even better, your price including TTL was below $43250? That would put your sale price around $40000, is that even possible??! And I thought I did pretty well!

As to the tax credit, I haven't seen anything in the IRS guidelines that says you can't get credit for two cars in one year, but I'm not an accountant. Don't forget tho, that if you put a Prius into service after Sept. 30, you lose half the tax credit anyways!

ravlegend, it is almost $3K less, but the 2007s come in levels like the RX350 does, standard, premium and premium plus. If you look, the options in premium plus were all standard for 2006, like power steering column, leather, seat memory, AFS HID lights, moonroof and roof rack. Other things are no longer standard, such as 18" wheels, now they are 17" wheels (18" are a $500 option). And so on, so for 2007, people can get into the 400h at a lower price point by giving up some luxuries.

Should hv read further on the Lexus site.

I noticed the NAV/ML package is $4130 but they are priced $3630 combined ($2650+980)as options. What am I missing here?

Annasf-that's amazing! mind sharing where is this dealer at?
and did you deal with a salesperson or a fleet manager? I may even make a mini-vacation out of it if I hv too.

After reading the article, I'm thinking (hoping?) that the 2007 RX400h hasn't been approved yet. If you notice, the 2007 Toyota Prius isn't listed either. I can't imagine that hybrid not getting a tax credit!

To answer a few questions re: my purchase/posts:

- I bought the car at Coliseum Lexus in Oakland
- $43,250 was the price I paid net of sales taxes (not sure exactly what TTL is, I assume that's the dealer advertising, destination charge, wholesale finance charge etc etc? Those were included in the price I paid)-- would love to understand what TTL fees are for my next car purchase (which could be soon for a Toyota Prius!)
- I don't have the details on the after market DVD yet since it hasn't been installed yet. It's going to be two screens behind each headrest... that's about as much I know/remember from the floor sample. The retail price was $2450 and I got $1800 after much negotiation since they already were discounting the car itself so steeply. Because I called every dealer in the Bay Area, I can say that this seems to be a fair price for the after market DVD, though perhaps each dealer uses a different brand /product. I got prices ranging from $1300 (just one dealer) to $2600. Most dealers came in at slightly under/above $2K.
- Not sure if the Prius '07 or the RX400h '07s would ever get on the list of ones to benefit from tax credit. It seems to me that the benefits start falling after end of this quarter any way, and that perhaps Toyota has chosen to prioritize the Camry hybrid and the GS450h to qualify for the tax credit -- maybe they're trying to push these two newer models? Also, the tax credit is supposed to bridge the gap between the difference for the regular model vs. the hybrid model. Since that gap is narrowing at least for the '07 RX400h (lower base price to get into a hybrid though without the luxuries), perhaps the tax credit incentive is no longer as strong...? Anyhow, this is just purely speculation on my part not based on any real evidence.
- My decision criteria for choosing an '06 are as follows: 1) seems like no real improvements/changes are being made in the '07 model other than the fifth generation nav, and based on personal testing it seems the voice command function while driving (the biggest advantage of the fifth gen Nav in my opinion)is not working that well anyway, 2) I was convinced I could get a better/below invoice price for '06 model during the transition (proven to be true) and 3) the tax credit on the '06 model is a sure thing which shaves off yet another $2200 off my out of pocket costs if purchased before 9/30. If you can still find an '06 model, I'd bet you might even be able to negotiate a better deal!

Now I am on to researching the Prius for our second car! A friend just bought one and totally loves it. If I can still get an '06 model and qualify for the tax credit (pending answer from my accountant) by 9/30, we may go for it.

Good luck to all in your purchases!

congrats on your hybrid purchase i know you will love the 400h. The CVT transmission you have in this vehicle is the smoothest you will ever drive, other than a slight feeling when the engine kicks in at certain times there should be no 'sputtering as if it has bad gas in it'. if this is happening particularlty at 35 to 45 mph this is not normal and has been noticed by a small number of 400h owners. It is a known problem\by lexus, some have tried to have thier computers reprogrammed by the dealer, computer chip replacement was the only thing that fixed it for others. Lexus corporate had to get involved for the chip replacement. Do not wait, make sure your dealer is aware of the problemm ASAP and insist on a repair that works.

Some Lexus dealers in the mid-atlantic are giving huge discounts on the 2006, 400h, trying to clear out their old inventory. I just got a 400h AWD with navigation, stick was $49.9, paid $44.5 + ttl. Yes, that's $5.5 off msrp. Most dealers will knock off at least $3,000 if you talk to them for more than five minutes. If your dealer wants more than this, go to another dealer. It really pays to shop around. p.s. The car is terrific, drives like a dream.

Hi,
I'm looking to lease the RX 400h and I want to make sure I ask the right questions to calculate my lease. Are all these points available for disclosure by the dealer? Are there other questions I should ask? Thanks

Dealers aren't required to disclose the money factor.. However, the residual value is printed on the lease, and is set by LFS, and the dealer can't change it.

If you want to know those numbers, ask Car_man here:

Lexus RX 330 / RX 350 / RX 400h: Lease Questions

Money factors and residuals vary by term/mileage, so be sure to let him know the parameters of the lease you are interested in.

kyfdx
