Gulp...was I the chump who once said "all Italian cars are beautiful"? The Fiat might be an acquired taste, but here's something truly hideous....

Replying to: Mr_Shiftright (Apr 03, 2005 10:37 am) Yes, it's quite a long way down hill from the elegant '53 Studebaker Starliner coupe, upon which this, and the Studebaker Silver and Golden Hawks, were ultimately based upon. As to Italian cars, the coupes and sports cars were for the most part, real lookers; not so for many Italian sedans, however; at least from the 1960s, IMO. Bob |

Actually the name is a gross misnomer...the car is a Studebaker, 100%. Packard had nothing to do with it, and there isn't so much as a Packard bolt in it.

Replying to: Mr_Shiftright (Apr 03, 2005 1:12 pm) I beg to differ. Yes, it was a variation of the Studebaker Hawk, but it was "badged" a Packard. Scroll half way down this link, as there is an example of one. Bob

Replying to: bumpy (Apr 03, 2005 2:40 pm) Sorry Bumpy, it's a Volkswagen all right but my copy of World Cars 1976 assures me that this model had the motor in the rear. Any more guesses? |

I think Shifty meant it like it isn't a real Packard...as 57 and 58 Packards are not. That VW has a front that reminds me of the 412....but I don't think thats it.
