Sunbeam Alpine MkI

Not exactly, the full name is Sunbeam Talbot Alpine (ca. 1953-55). It makes an appearance in Hitchcock's "To Catch A Theif".

I believe the British pronounce it "tallbutt", while the French say "talbow". Can anyone confirm that?

Damn, this is an ugly car. SHould have called it the "carp".

I don't remember the model name, but I think the brand name was used by German and English builders. I know someone explianed it once, but I don't remember the details.

The wagon is a Fiat 1500

The fishy roadster is a Daimler Dart. IIRC, Daimler UK built products from Daimler Germany under license, but this was before 1900. I think ties were cut by the turn of the century, but the name remained.

Daimler was also a British brand, it was absorbed by Jaguar in the early 60s. The pictured car is a Daimler SP-250 Dart from the late 50's or early 60s it was remarkable for several things (aside from the fact that it was extraordinarily ugly ) :

1) It had what every roadster owner of the period wanted, V8 power (2.5 litre) and probably would have sold better had it looked better.

2) Like Corvettes and Loti it featured fiberglass body work.

3) After Jaguar Ltd took over the ownership of Daimler they discontinued production of the SP-250 (c. 1963) after discovering that it cost more to produce than the E-Type!

Daimlers were long favored as rides by British royalty (they seem to favor Audis nowadays). Jaguar continues to make cars under the Daimler name, IIRC they're slightly more luxurious than their Jaguar counterparts.

The English Daimler Motor Co. was founded in 1895 after the British Motor Company
bought the patent rights owned by the German Daimler AG for use in Britain.
