Yep, it's a '78, IIRC they were all stepsides. There weren't many new performance/muscle cars around in '78 so speed junkies were attracted to this muscle Hemi-truck which could outrun contemporary Corvettes.
 
The article I took it from calls it a "L'il Red Express" but "L'il Red Wagon" is the name I recall too. Hubcap Cafe splits the difference and call s it both.

This is from an old postcard, if you look closely you can easily find a dozen identifiable cars, enough to approximate the year the picture was taken.
