Yep, it's a '78, IIRC they were all stepsides. There weren't many new performance/muscle cars around in '78 so speed junkies were attracted to this muscle Hemi-truck which could outrun contemporary Corvettes.

The article I took it from calls it a "L'il Red Express" but "L'il Red Wagon" is the name I recall too. Hubcap Cafe splits the difference and call s it both.

I remember it as "Little Red Truck," actually. Pretty sure it made its debut as a '78 model. Could be different marketing in different parts of the US. It had a 360 4-barrel (not a Hemi, but as close as you could get in '78) and would keep up with the Chevy C-10 454, not to mention accelerating about as quickly as an L82 Corvette.

Actually, I think the '78 model used a copcar 440, although the '79 used a copcar 360. The 360 put out 195 hp. I think the 440 had 255 hp.

Wasn't there also a model called the Warlock, which came out before the Lil Red Express?

I found an article on the truck from Automobile Magazine, in case anyone is interested:

This is from an old postcard, if you look closely you can easily find a dozen identifiable cars, enough to approximate the year the picture was taken.
Extra credit if you know where it was taken:
