Replying to: andys120 (Apr 15, 2008 9:36 am) written on the side of the headlight fairing. In 1961 they did IF they had the little ornament on top of the fender. The station wagon in the picture has something written on the side of the headlight so that indicates it's a 61. I don't recall seeing a Ford in that pink color of the 62 in this picture. Mary Kay?

There was no "405" fender flash, the badge actually read "406" even though the actual displacement was 405.1 and the rated Horsepower was indeed 405 for engines equipped with three 2 barrel carbs, the more common 4v versions were rated at 385hp. HP ratings published by mfr's in those days tended to be rather generous. One more thing, the crossed checkered flags were used on Chevy's engine badges but Ford used a Thunderbird motif for their performance engines except on Falcons and Mustangs. Here's the ad stating that the car is a 390, painted in factory Sand Shell Beige.

Replying to: andys120 (Apr 15, 2008 7:41 pm) I am well familiar with the crossed checkered flags used by Chevy. The checkered flags on the 62 Galaxie are on each side of the eagle's head with the "390", or "406" on the eagle. I enjoy all of your posted pictures. Good work. |

Replying to: imidazol97 (Apr 15, 2008 5:42 pm) They probably gave some exotic name to that color, like "bleached salmon" or something. |
