Replying to: bumpy (Dec 13, 2007 1:26 pm) That Esso sign seems so out of place on a busy urban street like that, but I suppose New Yorkers had to buy their gas somewhere.   In busy parts of Manhattan (that looks like the Times Square area) they'd put the gas stations inside garage structures. By the time I moved to NY in '68 most of 'em had moved outside to the extreme East or West Side.

Replying to: fintail (Dec 13, 2007 12:59 pm) The Jag looks like a XK120 Cabrio (as opposed to a roadster), the car in front of it is a ca. 1949 7-passenger Packard, directly behind it is a 1946-48 Oldsmobile, and to the left looks like a 1953 Dodge.   I think you've covered all the identifiable cars except the taxi behind the Dodge which I think is a '53 Plymouth.  Jag called those Drop-Head Coupes(DHC) to distinguish them from the Roadsters which lacked roll up windows and a readily folding top (you had to assemble/disassemble it piecemeal and store it in the trunk). Replying to: andys120 (Dec 13, 2007 2:46 pm) No roll up windows on any Jag 120 open car. It's got the rear spats, too, which worked really well for overheating the brakes. Also if you wore spats, you couldn't have wire wheels, as the knock-offs wouldn't clear. so that's why that car has disk wheels.
