I do know that a 2004 4x4 will average low mileage like this. If it is a 4x4, put locking hubs on it and add a Quadzilla Chip for around $299. I hope you are not selling this truck and buying a Ford for better mileage? Ford is the worst one out of all the diesel trucks for mileage (not ragging on Ford's, just a fact). I have heard that the Chevy Duramax can beat all of them on mileage. I am still averaging awesome mileage with my chip! I know it has taken me close to +5MPG. I pulled 2 1,400# steers with a 16 foot WW around 140 miles yesterday. I was still averaging 19 MPG (OD=18,565) 2005 Cummins. I also beat an old Acura off the line with the empty trailer behind me. (started smoking the tires and I let off)

1. what is the gear ratio? 4:10 or 3:73
2. At 75 mph, RPM should be at 2100 3.73. what is yours?
3. Fuel Filter, change every 10,000 miles.
4. Air filter must be clean.
5. Do you buy fuel at the same depot? Different fuel stops can change the performance.
I am on my 3rd Cummins and all three have performed 19 plus on the road and 17-18 in traffic. May ask your dealer to reflash the ECU for your vehicle. Your ECU may have been programed for another specification. This can happen.

First thing, hook up to the max load you will tow and run for 4 hours hard. This sets the engine as to what you expect. Sound silly, however I have been in the class 6,7,8 truck market for 27 years and the big rigs start out at the max weight. I have found this true for my personal cummins engines as well. Chip, I just bought a power module from super chip,3805, and love it. +5mpg. Haven't towed the offshore boat yet. Warranty, before dealer service, change it back to stock. Dealers will void the warranty even thougth they advised me on the super chip.
I use the K&N filters, they perform very well. Oil, Shell Rotella Synethic and a mobil one oil filter. 7500 miles between changes. The new high output engines will turn the oil black very fast, so don't get concerned.

Real mileage without a chip, around Charlotte, some country driving, 18-19. Interstate, 70+ 19.5 -20. The super chip around town 21, interstate 23.9-24.9. I used the percormance towing program which added around 55 HP and gave the best range. I a well pleased with the results. Just came back from Charleston and averaged 24.2. Mileage is a little better if their is a little rain.

Just got my '06 Ford F350 w/6.0 back from the dealer for the 3rd time for "Poor Fuel Economy", and they have no answers....AGAIN! I get 10-11mpg Empty.

An engineer from Ford actually came out and performed the diagnostics, and said "Nothing Is Wrong." He also told me, "Ford does not post mileage on their Super Duty Trucks, and therefore does not warranty the fuel mileage. He went on to tell me that even though the mileage is at the lower end of the scale, he feels it is within Ford's specification.

This is my 5th Powerstroke, so I know how they supposed to perform. With a shortbox, and a 28 gallon fuel tank, I get about 250 miles and have to look for a fuel station.

The Ford dealer told me they would trade me out of it for $10,000 to boot, and the truck is only 6 months old! I'm frustrated enough to trade this one off for a Dodge or Chevy.

My old Poewerstrokes 6.0 and 7.3 consistantly got 15-16mpg empty and 12-13mpg pulling horse trailers and a 10,000lb 5th wheel.

Who else is having this problem?

Any solutions????

Thanks!
