Any chance of getting a dealer to honor the GM supplier program? The local dealers are not interested, although willing to negotiate a price below MSRP, but not as low as supplier pricing. I have contacted some of the largest dealers and they have not returned calls or emails as of yet. It seems that the demand has slowed to the level where some may be interested in supplier pricing, although perhaps only on in stock coups. Love the car, want the deal.

Replying to: jmess (Jan 24, 2006 10:00 pm) I am sorry to hear about the problem you posted yesterday regarding your Z06. I hope things work out for the better -- or even the BEST. I know how you feel, as I have been GM's guinea pig (sp?) for the original C5 in 1997. I was among the first to find two of their eventual recall items. Here's why I am writing. I've been reviewing a bunch of info regarding the recent pricing of the 2006 Vettes -- NOT the Z06s. This isn't my first ride in the Corvette Purchase Rodeo and it won't surprise you to hear that the prices I've paid for different vettes over the years -- when compared to their sticker, changes radically based on Economics 101 ... supply and demand. At this time of year, are you hearing that actual prices being paid are flexible (i.e. below sticker) and if so HOW FLEXIBLE -- $3K or $5K or maybe at the end of a month when its been raining for about 6 weeks $22K? !!!! ? How can I find out the city where a "glut" of supply may be sitting? A long time ago I bought the first C-5 to hit the Southeast US. I literally bought it sight unseen and before even driving a C-5 at all. Then, since it was the first year of the new body style, I paid "Sticker" PLUS $6K. I help Chevy iron out several bugs and later bought a 2002 for roughly $4K below sticker. Each time I have stroked a check on the spot. The picture you posted as message #25 several months ago is THE EXACT car I'm looking for. Please provide me with some details regarding a couple of matters. I'm directing my inquiry to you because you seem to be a regular "poster" of messages on the web and you seem to be up to speed on a variety of issues. Understand that I know the car (the 2005 and 2006 Vette) inside and out. My questions are: 1) What is your feel for the current supply and demand situation at this very moment. I know it varies from city to city, but as a 3,000,000 miler with Delta, I'll hop on a plane and have a pleasant cruise home in a heartbeat. 2) I've decided not to buy a Z06, as a result, I'm having difficulties figuring out whether or not the Z51 Suspension Package is a must or not. I completely understand what it is and how that effects the handling, but I'm also told that the new drilled rotors are loud, eat pads and that the combination of all the Z51 components absolutely EAT tires. What's your opinion. 3) Wonder why the middle grade suspension (the magnetic adjustable ride)is SO hard to find. All I can find is either the Z51 or the standard base package -- which by the way -- ain't chopped liver. 4) Even if I don't get the Z51 Suspension package, don't I still want to get the 3.42 Ratio Rear Axle? I've got more questions, but will spare you the agony and would be grateful for any answers you are willing to provide for the 4 questions listed above. I'd also appreciate the names of some of the other people you "chat" with who you think have a good working knowledge of vettes in general. If you don't know the answer to any of the stuff I've listed above, perhaps they will be able to provide some insight. I'm thankin' ya in advance! Regards, Daveniche

You can do better if you can find somebody to set you up with "GM Supplier" or "GM In Your Driveway" discounts. If you have the time I think doing the factory tour and museum delivery would be a lot of fun. I thought the whole idea was sort of silly until I had mine for a few months. At some point I started to realize what a piece of automotive art these things are. It is pretty hard not to be impressed with all the history and passion that surrounds these cars. I think I have fallen in love with the dam thing. Even my wife digs it which is even more surprising to me. I personally like the F55 setup (MagRide) in my car. I have noticed that there aren't as many F55s around. But you can easily order a car with F55. I think they have cured most of the brake squealing in the Z51 with some updated pads. I think tire wear is the most common complaint I have seen about the Z51. Some find the ride to be too stiff on a day to day basis but most who bought the Z51 seemed to understand the trade offs; beside you can stick aftermarket Z51 badges and stickers all over your car I have also noticed that in my area the dealers are stocking a lot of lower optioned cars to keep the prices down; now that supply has exceeded demand. When I bought my car in Mar 05 all the C6s available in my area had MSRPs in 52-56 range. The standard M6 and Z51 M6 have the same 3.42 axle but different gears. |

About to buy my first 'vette, and not sure of which direction to go. I have a '03 Z71 Tahoe I am going to trade in, and these are possibilities. - New '05, at $7011 under invoice, ($48,869). They have offered $23K for my Tahoe, which has a trade in value range of $21,925 to $25,200, lowest being Carpoint, highest being NADA, with Edmunds being right in the middle. I think this is a good trade value, as I used "Excellent" in my valuations, (which dealers hate to see), and the new '07 Tahoe is out already. - Buying a new '06, using the GM Supplier Discount. Have had a number of dealers in the Austin/Houston area refuse to accept that, but a few in the Dallas area haven't said no, and are looking for a car that fits my parameters. The prices would be about the same as the '05, if I used the discount, but the car would be a year newer, and I may be able to get pretty close to exactly what I want, (color/transmission/magnetic ride may be changed from the '05, but I could live with everything that is on that car). The catch here is what I would get on a trade form one of these dealers that is potentially already losing some income from the supplier discount, compared to selling it to someone that doesn't have the discount. - The third option would be to work with a very good used Corvette dealer here. He has some beautiful cars, and is close to the $23K on the trade, as the result of a brief conversation on Friday. He may be able to get a couple thousand below the price of the new '05, and has an '05 with auto/magnetic ride, with 5600 miles, and about $900 less than the new '05, with no negotiation so far. Not sure how much warranty is remaining on that one, the new '05 would have the complete package. As usual, I am trying to see all the angles, and am having paralysis analysis. Guess I am wondering what you folks thought about the situation... Thanks for any help. |

Replying to: jdaniel (Feb 19, 2006 3:59 pm) Also note that you will take about a $10K hit (off MSRP) as soon as you drive off the lot in a new 05. So don't be afraid to ask for a better price.
