I'm guessing that this vehicle is somewhere where you don't have easy access to inspect it?

First..invest the dime on a Carfax report..assuming the seller has no hesitations on informing you the VIN...if he/she does...take yourself and someone close to you out for a meal with the $35 saved.

If the Carfax report is acceptable, talk further with the seller..and make sure the title is in his/her name and possession. If the seller/owner passes your phone impressions, invest the airfare and take a look..hopefully some place you wouldn't mind a weekend getaway to. You may want to contact a Chevy dealer in that area ahead of time to schedule a hour or so of inspection.

I am reminded of the old adage...if it seems too good to be true, most likely it is. You can't buy much rolling stock with $8000 - I strongly suggest you either research the VIN or spend the time and money to examine it in person. With all the right numbers...that car should be worth alot more unless it is trashed.

Thank you to all that responded...I tried emailing and getting a hold of the people selling the car and I even looked up plane tickets but after all of this they never responded! I had mentioned I preferred escrow services and I wanted to look at it...oh well no big deal...will still keep looking for a classic corvette...they just go so fast and cost alot in time and money but that is what is so great about them. Classic history.

This is a $60,000+ car.

And because of this, the ad is obviously a scam.

Here's how it will go. The seller will 'require' an earnest payment from you. Or a payment based on some tale. And, if you send the money, the game is over, he's gone, never to be heard from.

A excrow service is also no protection. There are bogus ones of these, and when the money is sent to them, that's the last you will hear of anything.

Also, pictures of the car are probably stolen from some other online source.

Look at this from the easy view - a 66 Vette, AC, sidepipes, knockoffs, numbers matching for $8,000. Come on. It's an obvious scam.

sullyak: Go to www.aulcorp.com OUTSTANDING aftermarket warranty--in january mine cost about $2,400 for an 01 Coupe with 13,645 miles--CHEAP protection at less than $50 per month!

My local dealer offers me 9% off form MSRP.
"2007 vett coupe BLK or Yellow Auto."
Seems like there is 12% profit in vetts. Is 9% a good deal?

There is about 10.5% markup (not counting holdback) so 9% is not bad but you can get invoice from several dealers.
Suspect your dealer would go 10% so don't think you would want to travel far for 1/2% of 50k or so.
Not so sure I didn't see one dealer doing $500 under invoice. If I can find that info again, I'll post it here.

Don't pay attention to what any dealer "offers".
If you want to buy a car, just go in and make YOUR offer to buy in writing. You don't know what they won't take until you make your offer and walk away from the table.
You don't want to go in and make an offer the dealer WILL take, you want to find out the highest amount he WON'T take. When you find it, add a dollar and make the deal.
