I find the idea of the hybrid V8 redundant at this point by callmedrfill

If your 380HP V8 is getting 25 MPG, how do you top that?

  Not a whole lot of V6s can get 25MPG combined. That is the high end of V6 economy.

  Same with the LS400hL. What could be next?

To the best of my knowledge the GS450h is becoming available in the US between April 2006 and June 2006. Here
are some details.

0 to 60 = 5.3 seconds (all round quicker than GS430)
Top = Limited to 155
Price = $57K basic.
Engine = V6 3.5 liter
Packages = $6K to $10.8K
Digitally Mapped = Yes
Bui;t in = Tahara

GS450h with 390 HP - These Salesmen know nothing.

You will get 280 hp form the gas engine and around 60 from the electric motor - topping out at around 340 hp.

This GS450h is known as the "balanced car" balanced between the LS600h and the GS300.

It will cost around $57K (base price). Loaded around $68 K.

How do you know it is the 280HP V6 and not the 306HP V6? To me, it makes more sense it is the same engine as GS350.

306+45=351HP

all of that math doesnt really matter. Lexus said it will deliver the power of a 4.5L V8.....
If their 4.6 delivers 380, the GS450h wouldnt be too far from that mark, plus they did say "well in excess of 300" and thats a direct quote

My bet is on at least 360

Lexus in Japan by idele

Last week I was in Osaka. I had the hotel concierge locate a Lexus dealer for me. The closest one was three subway stops away. Lexus was introduced in Japan last August. The building was new, of contemporary architecture three stories high. The interior was very elegant and refined. Reception and a showroom on first floor with some offices. The second floor had a lounge and more offices and an additional car display area. The third floor was devoted to service with a long row of car lifts. There is an elevator to transport cars from street level to the service floor. A very impressive facility. I was surprised to learn entire operation is owned by Toyota. They've made a huge investment. The only cars currently sold are the IS250, IS350, GS350, GS430 and SC430. Contrary to a recent post in an Inside Line forum, the LS430 is not available: it's still sold as a Celsior at Toyota dealers. The upcoming LS will be sold at the Lexus stores. The RX400h is also not sold there. The GS450h will arrive in March, the same time as for the USA. A GS430 on display had a beautiful very light blue pearl color (the Japanese designation is 074) not seen in the USA. I suspect we don't get the same color choices. The sales consultant I talked to spoke English. He had an appointment coming up and when I left he pointed to the S class Mercedes that had parked with the client emerging.

My Lexus dealer informed me that sometime in the second half of March the GS459h will arrive. Every Lexus dealer will get just one car (with most options) in the initial allocation. The colors will be either white, black or silver.

White, Black or Silver. Booooooo.

Is that really the color palate that the likely demographis wants? Booooooring.

Maybe this isn't the right car for me....

But I'll definitely go check one out

These are the colors for the first allocation. The GS cars have a range of 10 colors. I don't care for the initial choice of colors but this car is going to be in short supply for a while.
In my opinion the GS450h will be more fuel efficient than the RX400h at speeds over 65 mph because of its reduction gear which besides the 6 speed transmission gives you a power and cruise range. The reduction gear can also be put on non hybrid cars to get better fuel efficiency at speed and I expect most Lexus models will get it. And then there's the dual fuel injection, port AND direct...... Lexus comes at you from every angle.

it's going to be very interesting to see if folks want this car. Many folks think only MPG-geeks want hybrids, but I believe that the desire for decent MPG goes much deeper. And if you can get the "enthusiast" drivers into hybrids, that's all good. It's not like those folks were debating between some 18 MPG luxusport car and some 45 mpg econocar. They are going to buy the luxosport car. Period. So why not find a way to get them some extra MPG?

This car is out of my price range, but I might take a shot at leasing one.
