What is this discussion about? Engine

This forum is to ask questions or enjoy bragging rights about swapping out your stock engine for a more powerful one, be it the same make or from another make of car. This forum is NOT for descriptions of replacing same with same merely to replace a blown up motor. Use the Maintenance & Repair Board for that kind of swap.

Thanks. I found a "flex plate" specifically made for this type of swap. it's on order, as soon as it comes in, we'll swap it out.

I am wanting to install a 514 into either my 65 or 67.
Wondering which one would fit better without much modifications.

67 would be better. Remember, 67 is when FOMOCO redid the Mustang to accept the FE-series motors, starting with the 390. The car "grew" so there was a little more room in the engine compartment. Even then it was a tight fit, particularly the driver's side. Don't get me started on plug changes

65 is too narrow. It can be done, but it'll be NASTY. Even doing the 351W swap into a 65 is tight, clearancing of the shock towers being needed. Can usually just indent the shock towers slightly in the effected areas to make the 351 swap, no need to cut them. Use block-hugger headers and there you go. To get a big-block in the 65 to towers may have to be removed and new ones made - I wouldn't suggest cutting them up, structural integrity and all.

Good luck.

302 swap from 1975 to 1990s by wyzard1

I am looking at replacing the motor in my 1965 Ranchero, which was a factory V8 4 spd. car. The engine was replaced at some time with a 1975 302, and they kept the original 4 spd. I think. I now have available to me a newer 302 from the mid '90s. I want to use the original 4 spd. tranny in the car, intake, distributor, etc. What kind of problems might I encounter? Will ther be balancing concerns, or physical fitment?

I want more torque and more power but want to keep mileage near as good. Seems like a no brainer

It's just a mountain of work for so little gain, guaranteed you will run into issues with doing such a swap and you have to consider the gains v. time/effort involved to do the swap. I'm not terribly familiar with the I5 v. I6 power/milage setups but I'm thinking that with much simplier bolt-ons you could gain the power of the I6 while retaining the I5

Its the challenge boys. Man does not do things 'cause they are easy, he does them because they are difficult, and I don't think this is gonna be that difficult.

I hear yah, you are talking to someone who just converted a 1994 Subaru Legacy Turbo into a road race car. Everyone told me "just buy a road race car already built" It hasn't been cheap or easy, but so far it's proving to be fun.

lol, so i bought a 16v engine from a 1993 passat for my 1990 jetta 8v, and i need help.

I'm a gung-ho kind of guy, as is evident, cause i have never really worked on cars very much. i have the talent, just not the experience.

I need to know exactly how transferable these engines are. like, will i need a new tranny? will i need a new distributer?... actually i have no idea what else i will need besides the engine.

I have a friend who did this very same swap, but he isnt all that accessible. (work and school and stuff) so I need help from you guys.

any info you can spare would be awesome, web sites, tutorials, anything!

thanks!
