What is this discussion about? Engine

This forum is to ask questions or enjoy bragging rights about swapping out your stock engine for a more powerful one, be it the same make or from another make of car. This forum is NOT for descriptions of replacing same with same merely to replace a blown up motor. Use the Maintenance & Repair Board for that kind of swap.

hmmm... maybe. I guess stating "4x4" makes me automatically think of off-roading.

Oh and I agree, AT is way better offroading. I've driven both offroad and MTs just wind up getting you stuck when you least expect or need it.

sorry I forgot to put the vehicle in there. The swap is happening in a 96 cherokee. I', not really going for rock crawling type of off roading, more mud slinging and trail cruising. she's only getting a 3 inch over stock lift. My delima comes from the severe hatred of getting passed by the "fast and Furious" groupies. Hence the reasoning behind the 520 hp 440. I was wanting th 6 speed trans and change out 1st for the granny low to better crawl around the mud. I really believe the cherokee is light enough to take off in town out of second. and if I happen to be pulling something a little hefty (some poor honda with the parking break on) I still have 1st gear!

Well, you do realize that much power in a lifted jeep going after the "F&F" folks will result one day in a bad rollover. I'd seriously consider going one way or the other with it, hard to find something that does both well.

am putting 10 inch wide tires under it to try and hold that off for a while, but yes I do realize that it will be a matter of time before I am upside down it my creation. BUT do we know where I can get the bolt pattern measurements for the T56 and NV5600 transmissions?

You have an excellent generation civic for an engine swap. The B16a engine will fit or b18c1. Both of those are out of the previous generation Integras, Ls and Gsr models respectively. If you really want to go all out you could go for the h22a out of the prelude but you would probably need suspension mods for the extra weight. Most stick with the b16a or b18c1 for that Civic. Turbos will give you the most effective horsepower increase off those motors but make sure you research that topic carefully and do it right the first time if you want the motor to last for any extended period of time.

Also consider that I while I think b16a and b18c1 are the same engine mount pattern as your d15 that is in there now so it would be mostly a direct swap, the h22a may not be. The b18c1 and h22a are the same horsepower output (200), but the h22a probably gives more torque due to more displacement; 2.0 liter in the h22a versus 1.8 liter (i think) in the b18c1. The b16 puts out 160 hp.

As far as the wheels go, the only one that can determine if they look good or not is yourself. You are the owner of the car. Have fun with it! Dress it to your personal appearance and how you like it. You are the one who should care the most about it, everyone is always going to have their subjective opinion on cosmetic upgrades no matter what you do to it. If you really want a suggestion on a wheel that is popular with that vehicle, then go to your local tire/wheel shop and they can give you suggestions since they install custom wheels on these vehicles all the time. If you want uniqueness though, that would be up to you to decide.

Good luck and have fun!
