Fuel Requirement Confusing???? by wstevec by donthegreek

Not an expert here, but before i bought my 07 Audi A3....i went through this exact same question-discussion here on the edmunds forums.

Everyone has their own opinion. But i think the bottom line is this:if the manufacturer recommends premium. USE PREMIUM, if you dont, performance can suffer and Gas milage will be less....and opinions differ on if it'll harm the engine...lots of people use regular from what i read.....i went with premium with no regrets....the added cost isn't as great as you would think it would be.
And i agree all manufacturers should design their engines to run on regular.

Bluetooth finally by rv65

Coming out in October. Made by Nokia for VW. This system will be retrofittable so you can install it later. The new bluetooth kit should have all the bluetooth features including bluetooth audio. Also will integrate to the RNS-510 which is nice. The RNS-510 has some nice touch screen features which is cool. Touch screen dialing and 6 number presets. Could have used the European skoda kit which has a US english option. That doesn't have bluetooth audio but does have RNS-510 integration. This kit will finally utilize the mysterious phone button.

The pricing is crazy on this car. Why not buy an RDX or anX3 for the money that VW wants. This car needs to cost 5K less for it to sell. I'm very disappointed.

I just drove a Tiguan at a local dealer here in Valley Forge, PA. Seemed like a very nice small SUV, somewhere in between the pricing and luxury of an Acura RDX and a Toyota RAV4. The base price is only 23k. However the SEL version with leather seats, NAV and sunroof bumps you up to 36k. You can get the NAV system as a stand alone option on an SE model for 32k.

This is pretty much exactly what I am looking for, but VW reliability scares me. We have a 2000 Passat that's basically falling apart at 50k miles.

If reliability scares you, *stay away* from any first year model. You're just asking for trouble. If you really want one, get it at the end of the model year. Oh, and get an extended warranty for the added piece of mind as VW has reduced their warranty to 3 years and (I think) 36k miles.

Why not buy an X3? Because they are dangerous. The 07 and 08 X3 AT have transmission issues yet to be resolved. In fact after two years they are still working on software upgrades. The transmission on the X3 is so erratic it will hesitate while entering traffic, merging, or just trying to get out of the way of a semi. Not the car I want my family in. I am getting rid of my 07 X3 shortly and will be looking at an RDX.

Actually VW says it's ok to use 87 on the Tiguan. You can use Premium if you have the extra 20 to 30 cents for it. The gas cap says you should use premium but VWoA says it's just fine to use 87.

Just found out that later 09 Tiguans will get Bluetooth as standard. Maybe standard in the SE and SEL since they have the multi function wheel with multi function display. Coming out by October at the latest.

This one looks nice but what about reliability? I've read a lot of horror stories about VW. How much is the extended warranty from VW? Does it cover everything?

I was disappointed with the pricing as well. It seems that VW is trying to kill itself in the U.S. by putting too high of a price on a car that's not really luxurious. I think they need to remember that volkswagen literally means "people's car" in German. In other words a car that it affordable! I can't believe privacy glass doesn't even come on the bottom "S" trimline. For that price I might as well hop up to a LR2, a vehicle with some real luxury, not just mediocrity at luxury prices!
