No Diesel at least for now. There will be one as early as MY2010. DSG might also be avaliable that time.

By 2010 everyone and their Brother will have Biodiesel options in the USA to compete with the Tiguan. Wonder how V's lack of reliability will stack up to those of Honda, and Subaru when THEY have their Diesel in the USA by the same ----Late date of 2010.

The new Media Interface for VW aka MDI. Will have full integration with the new Touch screen RNS-510 navigation system. It can support USB, Aux in and iPod. Full iPod integration. The iPod integration works much better than the current one. Requires a harness but there is supposedly one. 1 site has this for 255 USD but it might be cheaper when it comes out. Mounts in the armrest or glove compartment depending on vehicle. It also works great with USB thumb drive. It even shows the ID3 tags over the CAN bus. That way it will integrate with the MFI display. Will officially come out this May. Right when the Tiguan is coming out. The unit does come with the USB cable but the Ipod cable is seperate. It's a special cable but should be under 100 US. More like 50 to 75 USD. Aux in will probably cost that much. It's a special plug and interface. Hope this helps.

Navigation update by rv65

The navigation system for the Tiguan also comes with the MDI adaptor. The navigation system is actually a hard drive unit. 10 GB for navigation and 20 GB for music. You also get the SD Card slot. The Disc slot has MP3, WMA, and DVD support. DVD movies can only play while in park. The MDI supports aux in and USB. The USB support means it can work with thumb drives or approved non iPod players. iPod is also supported in this MDI. It can even show ID3 tags over the MFI. The Tiguan can still be orderable with a navigation and cd changer but some order guides show you can't do that. For MDI iPod playback you will need an additional cable for 65 USD or maybe less at a dealer or maybe kufatec or some store like them. Price for the navigation system with MDI is 1,990 USD. Hope this helps.

Not sure what lack of reliability you are talking about. Consumer Reports, one of the more conservative rating organization, loves the new 2.5 Rabbits and Jettas and makes them recommended buys. Certainly rated much better than a number of recent Toyotas. TrueDelta and others have long found no significant difference between the MkVs (on which the Tiguan is based) and typical cars from Japanese manufacturers. European sites are even clearer about this, and the Tiguan is selling like hot cakes, over there. Moreover, Diesel VWs have traditionally been yet more reliable, with engines easily lasting between 200,000 and 400,000 miles.

The Diesel Tiguan may come as early as early next year - not "late date 2010." No one knows for sure, at this point. Blame the horrific exchange rates... I wouldn't buy one without a Diesel.

DSG should also arrive at the same time as the diesel.

Yes, I've subscribed to Consumer Reports off and on since its inception. That's where I got the idea about their less than stellar ;Rabbit it was minor engine and electrical, transmission, power equip. Audio. Similiar Electrical issues on most. I drive a Subaru Outback which is so reliable its almost boring w/ an Audio sound system that rivals a live Orchrestra.
Meanwhile, if electric is the ONLY issue it has problems with ----nothing else works right when the Sending unit & other elec. doen't work. I got over having ele. problems when I owned a Jeep Wrangler (it goes where its' towed to). Great motor...just wouldn't start due to electric.

What about the VW dealerships. How are they to deal with?
Would have gotten a mini cooper clubman if it had been Diesel. May get it anyway
Your thoughts.

iPod cable for navigation models with the MDI by rv65

This is the part number for the iPod cable. This only applies to those who have the navigation system with the MDI. (Media-Interface aka Media-In) You can purchase this part at the local dealer. They should be able to order it. This will allow full integration of the iPod. No video support though. No album art either but much better than the VW iPod adaptor. It even shows the song info on the MFI display. Hope this helps.

since Tiguan's arrive in two weeks why isn't there more definitive spec.'s at the dealerships. I've been to two and they're clueless. I know more than they do...and they act disinterested. It is now May 4th

Some say they are already on sale. Supposedly today is the onsale date. VW is very interested in bringing a TDI tiguan but can't due to cost restrictions. The Tiguan TDI will likely use the clean 2.0L 140 HP engine. This is a new design that meets the 50 state standards.
