Broken Plastic covers by gowri Apr 20, 2005 (5:21 am)   Dear friends, I am looking for used cavaliers (gulf spec) and in 2 of the 3 cars I ve seen, I found the plastic (or whatever it is) panels atop the dash just near the wind screen were broken in two three places and in both cases the buyers claimed it was because of parking in hot sun for a long time. But I suspect the damage is due to some repair work in the panels underneath.(Tampering odometers etc). Any views ?   Thanks.. A car with zero service records, no history, no mileage stickers on the car, no stamps in the warranty or service booklet, ---now THAT is suspicious. Replying to: Mr_Shiftright (Apr 20, 2005 11:42 am) I would be suspicious of the "sun damage" story. I have owned three Cavaliers. One was 1986. The other 2 were a 1995 and a 1998, which I still own. None ever has had sun damage. The plastic portion near the windshield is in perfect shape. I am not saying that on a few cars it hasn't happened, but on another forum, the people make it sound like it is a common thing to happen. I know that it is not. Replying to: Mr_Shiftright (Apr 20, 2005 12:51 pm) I have lived in California, the LA area, And now live in southern New Mexico. Ya can't get too much hotter than there. I still believe that proper care and maintenance helps prevent the problem. I do not believe there are as many cracked plastic pieces as stated by some other forums. Another statement that gets me is that they claim that it is common for the Cavalier to do this. I go back to what I said earlier that proper care will help prevent this.

This forum is for "Noises when Turning."   Actually, I think I'll retire this topic since other forums duplicate it and it seems to attract a lot of off-topic posts.
