TX Sales 63% Decrease! by seloo

Another poor sales performance for the TX.

This is not a bad car, but you must buy it really cheap. It has the worst resale value of any car in its class.

There are plenty of new 08/09s still on the lots!

If you work hard, you can get $12-13K off MRSP!

Any suggestions on how to get that much off MSRP? I am in Austin TX and I am seeing 5K off MSRP. That just blows my mind that they think people would pay that these days.

It will be hard, but it can be done.

Many of these cars are been on the lots over 400 (+) days.

There are a lot of factory to dealer incentives out there.

As far as value, the 08 Mazda CX-9 and the Veracruz are a much better overall value.

Good Luck!

A reporter wants to interview someone who drives a 3-row crossover, has kids and plans to drive the vehicle to a vacation destination instead of taking an airplane.
If this describes you, please respond to jfallonedmunds.com by Monday, April 6, 2009 and indicate your vehicle's make and model.

Still not seeing great deals... by penguins1

Still the best I am getting dealers in my area to do is ~$6000 off MSRP. We really need a third row that accepts car seats and this vehicle is the one we can make fit our budget the easiest (~$20K).

I can't believe 2008s aren't being given away.

That is basically invoice and the rebate.

They can do much better!

Good Luck.

Thanks!

We are also looking at used ones. The trouble is we want a bench second row and those seem hard to come by. Do you think getting a 08 Taurus X SEL with ~20,000 miles for around $18K OTD is possible?

There is a private party resale on an 07 Freestyle with 6000 (that's right 6000) miles for $14K. Not a bench seat though! That would be really tempting otherwise!

The Freestyle is better on gas (smaller engine and CVT)

It is not a refined as the TX (engine, transmission, soundproofing, etc..), but in this used car market $14K sounds pretty good. A number of people on this board love that car. I was warned by my friend in the business concerning possible problems with the CVT.

Used TX SELs w/10-20K miles were selling for $12-13K in Nov and Dec 08. Prices are up due to a shortage of cars on the used market. If you can find a SEL that was purchased at the auction in the Nov/Dec time period, the dealer should have a low enough cost to make that deal. Cars purchased Jan to date, are $3-4K more expensive.

I had a dealer offer me a new $35K MSRP Limited for around $24K. Over the next few months, a new car deal may be a better option.

Good Luck!

There is a dealer here in Austin with a new '08 that has what we want with a sticker of $30k. I may call tomorrow and offer them $21 OTD and see what kind of laughter I get.... otherwise I will just wait patiently for a nice used deal to pop up.

I recommend that you send an email to the Internet or New Sales Manager.

Explain that you have a good understanding of the factory incentive summaries and programs and make your offer.

Explain that you are not in a hurry (but you are ready to buy today at the right price) and that you plan to contact several other dealers, but you would like to do business with their dealership.

Be very polite, but direct. I have found that like any of us, these guys do not want to waste time.

My experience has been that some will not respond, while others will try to ignore your offer, but some do engage in a productive dialog.

You must remember at these prices, they are lucky to make holdback and a few extra bucks on incentives or fees. Many of these 08s have been on the lot for 400 (+) days, they would like to move these cars.

Good Luck!
