TX Prices by seloo

Currently, the wholesale market is a little slow due a lack of volume.

Prices are generally the same.

Retail prices are falling, many 08 TX SELs are listing for $14-15K, $1K less than just two months ago. I saw one for $13.9K.

The average dealer mark-up is around $3.5K we have seen a few at $5K.

There are 50% more new TXs on dealer's lots than there was at this time last year.

The current Ford deals are not good value and customers know it, just look at December's sales for this car.

If you are buying new, wait awhile, you you are buying used then bid very low, your goal is 50% off MSRP!!!!

Sounds like a great deal. I can't imagine the car getting much lower.

A year ago I happily paid $32K new for my slightly less equipped T-X Limited (everything but moonroof and second row heated seats). And I'm still extremely happy with my Taurus X, even at that price.

Being used, buy a good all-inclusive extended warranty. The warranty price is the same no matter how many goodies you've got installed.

Hello All:

I am new to this forum, as I just started seriously looking for a Freestyle. I have located a 2007 Limited with AWD, moonroof, and DVD. The dealer is asking $16988.

From my reading of this thread, it is my understanding that I should be shooting for somewhere around 50% of MSRP, which was about 32K. This would be 16K. Also, it appears that dealers are pricing about 3K over what they have in the car. Based on this, would it be safe to assume that the dealer has around 14K in the car, and somewhere between there and 16K would be a good price? Thanks for your help.

We are talking about a 08 Taurus Xs.

07 Freestyles are going for $Ks less.

Good Luck!

Auto Prices About To Crash

With unsold cars stacking up by the day, demand falling faster, and bailout silliness getting sillier, I have three easy to make predictions.

1) Hundreds of dealerships are headed for bankruptcy in 2009
2) The Fed Is Destined To Become World's Largest Auto Dealership
3) Cars are going to get cheaper, much cheaper. Auto prices will crash. Liquidation sales later this year after the 2010 models come out are going to be fabulous.

It makes no sense to buy a car now, no matter how good the deal looks. The deals will get progressively better as the year rolls on.

I went to one Ford dealer today who is closing next week. They had an 08 and an 08 Taurux X Limited. The salesman said $31K for the 09 and $30K for the 08 after the Employee Pricing Plus Cash and other rebates. So I asked him any lower? He said no and I chuckled. He didnt seem to care whether he sold it or not. I asked him what happens to the cars after next week if they're not sold. He said they go back to Ford, the used ones go to a wholesaler. No wonder they're going out of business.

Mike,

Yes your post is "interesting reading" and great information to know. I good friend of mine that works for a state auto auction said it is getting harder and harder to move vehicles. His dealer contacts tell him that stock on the lot's continue to build faster than they can sell and no dealership can survive long under that dynamic.

Given your prior post of aiming for at least 50% off of MSRP when prices start to crash how for below MSRP do you foresee it going?

Lastly I must give you kudos for you Blog

The dealer only makes a couple $K on each sale, depending on the deal made.

So if they can't make that small profit anyway, they probably don't care about the sale in the least, especially if they're going under and losing everything after all.

I'm sorry to post this here, but I don't see to be getting any responses on the Flex forum. And since the Flex and Taurus X are nearly the same vehicle I thought someone over here might be able to help. I've spotted a couple of used Flexes and I was wondering if anyone knew what these were currently going for on the used or wholesale market. Are they being priced similar to the Taurus X? I would assume that I can't hope for 50% of MSRP, but does anyone have a thought as to what I should shoot for?
