Re: Azera Built b4 Dec. 05, 2005
I am the recent buyer (May 08) of a used 2006 Azera Limited, production date Nov. 2005; miles at purchase about 20K, it was traded in with about 17,500, but was driven for a while by the Financial Manager at the HONDA dealer where I puchased the traded-in Azera (traded for smaller Honda, not an Accord). Traded by a gentleman in his early 70's (I'm in early 60's); he was looking for better MPG for his road trips. I know who he is and have talked to him personally here in town.
I am new to the "forums" and have been educating myself concerning ALL aspects of the Azera. It appears the "hot issue" for 2006/2007/ and maybe part of 2008 Azera's is the suspension/front strut problems.
Yesterday I went to the local Hyundai dealer for some additional conversation (have already picked their brains on other minor issues/education efforts on other visits), regarding what was the "as built" configuration of this Azera, the "bill of material BOM" for the front stuts.
Low and behold the original part numbers for the "early" built 2006's is the current replacement part. That is the 54611 - 3L040. The TSB for this issue is/has replaced "tonking" struts (when accomplished) pulling out the 3L041's, and putting in the original part numbers. The parts manager also answered by question has to "what P/N" what be used for repair/replacement, if needed, on my Nov.2005 production date car, and it still would be the 3L040.
He researched is "purchased" data base (includes customer out of pocket, and warranty purchases), and NO struts have been transacted by this dealer for any Azera being serviced. In other words, no customer has either complained, or won their argument with them that would have lead to a "strut replacement outcome". The parts manager is/was aware of the "tonking/noise" complaint that out there in the world of Azera's. But again, has not had the need to issue "replacement stuts" for any reason.
I am aware that "Upper Strut Mount" P/N 54630 - 3L100 has been declared has a possible fix in this issue of "3L041" strut complaints. Possible that one or both components have been part of the problem.
OK, what about my early production Azera and its ride? No, it is not always the smooth ride over some of the rougher city streets, or repaired roads. I don't have the "tonk/clunk" that the later production cars have had. My research indicates this Azera ride will never be as mushy as say an old "boat Mercury or big Ford, or other big GM boat. My experience is the HONDA Accords right at times just as rough. Matter of fact, Consumer Report states that is their only finding on the Accord, and Odessey Vans, they both ride rough.
Regarding MPG on my Azera. I did a road test with newly full tank (auto shutoff), and reset computer MPG, and entered Interstate Highway for a 100 mile ride and did 27.9/28.0 MPG. My experience with city driving is yes only about 14MPG, maybe up to 17 if I add some "upper miles city driving" with it. So I'm looking at about 22 MPG average, not really that bad.
Thanks, Retired Dad

Enjoy your new (used) car! My bought-new 2006 Limited (built June 2006) is going strong with nearly 30,000 miles on it and no problems save the occasional sympathetic vibration from the rear package shelf if I get too bass-happy. I switched away from Honda (owned 2 Accords, a '77 and a '90) because I wanted a larger car and the new Accord styling was too plain, but I didn't want to pay the Avalon or Acura or Lexus price, and I've been fully satisfied with the Azera...

My Azzie was also built in Nov. '05. Never had a problem. The problems with the Azera seem to be so random. Hope you got a good one. Mine sure was.

Took my '06 in yesterday to get the pinstriping replaced..took about an hour and they did a good job...the striping is silver to match the wheels....Also, drove a Genesis Premium..black on black..good power and the seats were more supportive that the Azera, but the sticker was $40k...I was thinking about tradng my '06 in, but they wouldn't deal...it only has 12k miles on it...I don't really need the large car, so I'm going to look at the G 37S coupe....Premium gas, but more fun....
#3915 of 4303 2006 Azera....undercarriage panel fell off..radio/CD indicator-off
Aug 10, 2008 (12:46 pm)
I'm really happy to find this forum. Please forgive me....but, I am really not into cars. I fell in love with the Azera when I rented one in June 2006...and traded in my 2004 Maxima in August 2006 for one...without that rental, I never would have considered a Hyundai. I have about 19,000 miles on my Azera! My normal driving is just back and forth to work about 10 miles....Last month, while driving 70 miles per hour in 95 degree heat, my car started making a huge noise...couldn't hear the radio...sounded like a huge big thud....almost like I was in a wind tunnel. Immediately called the dealer and arranged to bring the car in...They couldn't reproduce the sound (I was in a 65 mile per hour zone and the dealer was about 20 miles from that in a 55 miles per hour zone.) All was well until I went back to my daughter's home this weekend and drove in the same conditions...On the super highway, hearing that noise again, it became increasingly worse and a panel fell from the right hand side of the underside of my car. My husband was able to take it off completely so we could continue on. Now, the panel is totally ruined from the scraping against the pavement. I had an appointment to bring the car into the dealer for this problem...Then yesterday, the panel indicator on the radio/CD no longer shows what is on....I have no idea what radio chanel is on....Has anyone else had either problem???? I love the AZera and these are the first issues that I have had.i

We bought new 2006 Azera and so far have 40,000+ miles. Last month the underside plastic panel fell down while driving. Made helluva racket. I tied it up with wire and the next day wife took it to dealer and they replaced it with no hassles. The plastic area around the 2 front screws holding it in place broke away.
The whole time at the dealer was less than an hour, no charges, all warranty work and parts.
First time I've heard or the radio problem though.
From our experience the Azera's warranty claims are alive and well, its a no hassle deal at Groppetti in Visalia, Calif.
We'll buy another when the time comes.

Sorry to hear about your issue with the undercarriage panel and the radio. The good news, both should be covered by the warranty with no hassle.
I never had a problem with my radio, but my clock was messed up within the 1st week and of course, it was replaced with no fuss or muss.

101649...glad to hear everything was taken care of with no hassle. That definitely makes things easier to deal with.
If you drove the Genesis that was $40K it had to be the 3.8 w/Tech Package. Personally, I would pony up the extra $2K and get the 4.6 w/Tech Package and get a whole lot more!!!
Be patient, they'll be dealing soon enough.

I recently had to take my Azera in to get looked at because my passenger side fog light was taking on water. I had replaced the bulb and went to a car wash, when I came out...the light was out. The next morning, upon inspection, I saw that the bulb had shattered inside the housing. I pulled it, replaced it and everything was fine until we got hit with a monstrous thunderstorm that I was out driving in. Once again, the same light was out and this time...water was seen built up inside the housing.
Well...the service department looked at it and found the seal around the fog light lens had failed. So...they ordered a new one and will be replacing it when it comes in.
I haven't seen this as an issue (meaning I haven't really seen anyone else post this problem), but just something to keep an eye on should you start realizing your fog lights seem to be going out on you for some strange reason.
