I've seen on used cars where they will get a vehicle from another dealership in their group but not on a new car, certainly not to the depth you described anyway. I've been given the name of who to talk with at that dealership and they may actually call them for you but haven't seen where they offered to show you everything you're interested in. My guess is that the rules of that auto group allow them to do it so I'd be up front with each and see which on offers the best deal.

I found this article this morning. While it doesn't exactly address Purchasing strategies, it does involve the purchasing process and some no-no's. I thought it would be a good read for some new to the car buying process.

I had an exchange of several email messages with a salesperson at a local dealer, trying to negotiate a price on a new car. I started out by emailing the generic sales address at the dealer, and he's the person who responded. We weren't able to agree on a price, so I told him I'd buy somewhere else and didn't hear from him again. I really didn't like dealing with the guy.
 
I'd like to talk to a different salesperson at the same dealership. How do I do that without stepping on the previous salesperson's toes?

I don't understand why you would go back to the same dealership after you couldn't agree on a price. Why not go somewhere else like you said you'd do?

Because I don't want to cut myself off from that dealership just because a single salesperson and I didn't get along.

Remember it's not really salesperson who gives you the price, it's the management. Doen't mean of course they won't change their minds, but I would say demeanor of a salesperson is often a good indicative of the culture overall. In any case, I would not feel "sorry" if I asked for another person in plain "I worked with Joe XYZ, but I wasn't very comfortable, so is it OK I work with you/somebody else?". Hey, it's your money. Nobody can be a friend to all of us.

I realize I don't have the whole story, but if you weren't happy with the first price, I presume, you went to other dealerships, right?
 
The fact that you're thinking of coming back to this dealership seems to me that you weren't happy with the prices from the other dealerships. Maybe your expectations are too high?

I'd like to give them a chance to meet (or beat) the other dealership's price. I would rather work with a different salesperson because it's very difficult to get an actual price quote from the guy I've worked with so far.

Just like dino said, the prices come from management. However, maybe today they'll be desperate and you'll get lucky.
