well just because GM pays the bills doesn't mean you have to buy their products. You're free to check out other options- which is the beauty of America.
From what you've added it seems like either SportCombis (9-3 or 9-5) would work well for you. The 9-3 SportCombi rides on a slightly more modern platform (Epsilon) versus the 9-5 SportCombi (which is based loosely on the Saab 9000 platform, which dates back to the 1990's)
Among GM products, you could try the Saturn Vue Redline. I haven't driven one, but Saturn bills it as the "performance" model despite having the same engine as the regular Vue V6.
Just buy what you like. Test drive the 2 Saabs, and see which one you prefer. If you prefer the 9-5, I'd do some hunting for leftover 2005 models which should be on clearance pricing right now because they restyled it slightly for 2006.
Good luck with your car shopping.

Everyone and their uncle drives Vues around here. Every other car on the road is a Vue. I did look at them but it reminded me of my jeep I drove forever 16 years ago and I didn't want that type of a car again. I want something different that not everyone has. I looked at the link you gave me for the Audi Avant now thats a hot car! I am going to test drive both Saabs when we get a Sports Combi around here. I looked in the big cities yesterday and no one has one yet. So I will just have to wait but I did talk to a guy that drives the 9.5 wagon and he loves his. I also talked to a guy that drives the 9.3 sedan and he is in love with his car!LOL I asked him about comfort and told him that I use to have a caddy and I feel they are tops in comfort and he said he has tried them but his Saab beats the caddy in comfort so that made my day! I wish they would just get them in already! I want to try one because I think I made up my mind here (Thanks to you for your help) and if it rides nice I am sold.

And now the waiting begins, (for SportCombis to arrive) right?
Tell us your opinion when your local dealership gets one in for a test drive

There are any number of initial reviews accessible on the net regarding the Sport-Combi....(incl.Edmunds) almost all very favorable and almost all commenting on the cars sportiness. As to the wagon/Soccer mom stigma...a recent independent marketing survey of 18 to 25 year olds put Saab in 2nd place in perceived "coolness"factor behind only the BMW Mini.Combine this with your access to the GM Employee discount price of more than 4% below dealer invoice plus any available incentives(Currently $500 bonus cash) you should be below $30K.on a loaded 2.0T.Nothing BMW,Audi,Volvo offers can compete in a "value for the dollar" comparo with that.

True. I was about to suggest the Volvo V50, but since she has access to GM Employee Pricing the Saab offers the most bang for the buck.

I have gotten e-mail from local dealers saying that the Combi is available.
If you have GM employee pricing, and otherwise like the car, and want to express loyalty, the 9-3 is a no-brainer.

Yes I am a women in waiting and waiting and waiting!LOL I have drove just about everyone I know nuts over this car.LOL It got to the point my daughter or friends would call and say "So which one is it today?" saablcp, I only know of Edmunds because my husband told me about it. He uses it a lot. I do look at the Saab web site about 14 hours a day though playing the little video clips over and over like some crazed person!LOL I also carry my little Saab book in my right hand every where I go like a kid with a xmas catalog. I make my husband look at the pretty pictures every night before he falls asleep!LOL You made my day with your survey! My mental state falls right into the 18 year old category and I think it's cool too!LOL I figured the price to be, this is before tax, title and license $35,039.00 I'm getting the Aero Nocturne Blue, Parchment Leather (I hope it's tan not light grey) 17" 5 spoke alloy wheels, Touring Package, Cold Weather Package (Can't have a cold rear), Sentronic Trans (For when I feel like a race car driver) Navigation Sytem, (For when I feel lost) and XM Satellite Radio so I can drive across country and never turn the station! Yes dhanley it should be a "No brainer" but when it comes to me nothing is ever that easy!LOL Once I drive one I will let you all be the first to know since you have been so helpful. No one and I mean no one would help me pick out my car because they say they didn't want to be held responsible when I didn't like it a month after I bought it.LOL But I really have done my home work on this sporty mobile and I am ready! If you see a blue blur going down the highway it's me just seeing if it will really go 160!LOL Thanks Everyone! Sue

If your local dealership can get one before Christmas, wouldn't it make a great Christmas present?
