Hmm.... sounds kind of like the Trailblazer/ Trailblazer EXT business to me. Well, at least the new one isn't shpaed like a shoe box.

By chance came upon a road test of the new ML by dealers/salesmen today. Several were testing about 6 ML's. Really liked the exterior redesign. They said they would be available in late March (South Florida). Can't wait to test drive.

You are one lucky person. I've been hounding my local dealer and the area MBUSA person to sneak me into one of those tests. No luck yet.

Glad to hear that they look good in real life. The photos are nice but nothing like seeing a the real deal.

Does anyone know the 2005 MB-ML has 7 seats or 5 seats?

5 seats in the first release. Then the long wheelbase version will be introduced in 7 seat. This should be in the fall with the GST at the same time.

Well the current rumor mill has the M-Class being followed up early next year by a new G-Class which will have 7 seats. The R-Class will have 3 rows of 2 seats for 6. At first the word was that the longer ML would be called the MLX, but now the thinking is that the longer version will replace the current G-Class.

is not a huge priority among the majority of M-class buyers. Do they want excellent traction in foul weather, and the overall onroad performance of allwheel drive - yes. Are they the least bit interested in taking their $45k-plus luxury car off road - mostly no. If they really have to, they will be glad to pay for the option.

They keep us in the dark about pricing until the last minuit, but I would imagine between the improvements on one end, and making things like low-range optional on the other, the price will probably remain in the mid 40's once leather, power seats, roof, et al, are added on. My first ML350 is ready to ship, so we expect to get that car sometime in april, to the best of my knowledge.

not long after posting that last, I got info that MB is going to launch a bit earlier, this month sometime. Also, still a little vague on price, but base is still supposed to be under 40k.
