#1 of 5 the Hyundai Getz by paceman

Hyundai says the Getz is too small for the US but Toyota sell the Echo, virtually the same size almost to the millimetre. Dollar for dollar & pound for pound, the Getz is a surprising New Dawn for Hyundai who it seems, intend to continue the very good vehicle climb with the new Sonata. Any comments out there?

I'd love to see the Hyundai Getz here. I'd also like to see the Honda Jazz/City and a lot of cars in that class. Because of this country's want of big heavy vehicles with one person riding in them the car companies will see no reason to import these. I give Chevy credit for the Aveo though.

paceman: Toyota announced today that it is dropping the Echo after a miserable sales showing of only about 4000 units for 2004. Whether it's the car itself (butt ugly) or the sub compact size is hard to say but they feel that they must field a car in that size catagory to keep their hand in the game with Hyundai and Kia. Also if MB really does bring the "Smart" cars to the US then for no other reason than to keep up their image as the up and coming leader in sales in the us Toyota will have something to sell in that catagory. Also don't rule out Ford bringing in the KA which has some really neat offerings especially a "cute as a bugs ear" two-seat convert.

All the better for all us drivers that must rely on the poverty level class of transportation LOL !!

The Scion xA seems to be doing OK with the same platform. I've always thought the Getz was a much nicer looking car than the Accent.

Yeah 'csandste', I rode in an Echo yesterday in the COUNTRY in AUSTRALIA, & while Toyota always build ok stuff, this wasn't up to our Getz. Before we bought the getz we thought of these small hatches as poverty bombs for the old, stupid, young or poor. But- & u might have guessed it- I'm an old 'B' whose other car is a n Avalon which is great for cruising long distances, but in Melbourne, once off good roads & freeway/tollways, tight spots are not uncommon, especially in undercover car parks. that is why I opted for MAX timt on the Avalon (out in the Australian sun, while we just use the Getz untinted to get max night & undercover parking views. Boy are they aesy to park yet with a 4speed auto & a nice 1.5 dohc engine, I cruise easily at 110 kph given that in our Northern Territory there is NO speed limit & punters have found the Getz'll do 203/4! I reckon (I go to the state often0 that they should be Pushed by Hyundai in the USA esp for the young - cheap but not nasty.
