Hi, I too am in the process of buying a new rabbit. But one thing has me spooked. The dealership I'm looking at is asking for something called "regional speeds" which sets me back an additional $367. Did you or anyone else who has recently purchased or are in the process of purchasing a rabbit encounter these "regional fees." I'm just worried that I might be getting scammed. And wow, $19,600 for a rabbit with ESP, 6-disc CD changer, 16" alloy wheels, and auto is a fantastic deal. Congrats!

Leg room/tall people by dave18873

For the male looking to buy a rabbit, I notice they don't have tilt steering but would someone 6'2 have enough leg room?

Huh? Sounds like a scam to me. Did you ask them what specifically the fees represent? Sounds like the old "advertising fees" scam. Just take a pen and draw a line through that item and subtract it from the total. If they balk, go to another dealer.

Actually they all have tilt/telescoping wheel.

We have a Jetta, which is the same car inside. I am 5'11" not 6'2", but legs are long for my height and there is plenty of leg room to spare. If I put the seat all the way back, I am at least 3-4 inches too far away from the pedals.

Negotiating w/ dealers by dave18873

Like most auto dealers, i wonder if VW dealers allow hagggling on the destination and list price. I'm thinking that 19600 that is mentioned might be reduced to 18/18.5 if one paid cash.

Dave, I just bought a 4Dr Rabbit for my daughter. I'm 6'-4", and I felt quite comfortable taking it out for a test drive. The interior is quite spacious for a car it's size. It drives and handles well, and comes with an amazing set of standard features for the price. We got a few of the available options and still came in around $20k. We also looked at the Mazda3 (looks like a boom box on wheels) and the Toyota Matrix (drives like a dog), and the Rabbit was the clear winner. Spacious, responsive, loaded with features like heated seats, pollen filter, electric mirrors, CD changer, extensive safety features,... and a standard 5 cyl, 2.5L engine with 150 hp. A pleasure to drive and a pretty good deal for the money. We'll just have to see if VW has managed to improve their quality record.

RE: "We also looked at the Mazda3 (looks like a boom box on wheels)"

LOL. My impression also. I drove a 3i and was underwhelmed. My '96 Golf GL A/T rides and handles just as nicely as the Mazda, though I'm sure it's a nice car, esp. if MPG is an issue. Guess I'll keep my Golf at least until the 2007 Rabbits show up (more features and paint colors on the 07 Rabbits). I just think VW needs to offer a competitor to the Versa and Fit - and the Rabbit isn't it for the average buyer who doesn't want to spend close to $20K for a four door w/ A/T that gets an estimated MPG of 22/30.

Well... VW does have a competitor available in Europe.

It's called the Polo
