#679 of 855 Help! What do I buy by hitfrombehind

Feb 10, 2008 (12:54 pm)

I am going to have to purchase a car. Car accident - not my fault - is causing this purchase. I had a 2002 BMW 325xi which I loved. I went car shopping yesterday and thought I decided to buy the 2008 328 xi, but I stopped at the end of the day at the Mercedes dealership, took the c300 sports AWD for a spin and I was impressed.

From everything I've been reading on the Edmunds site and in forums, the two cars favorably compare! I have a one reservation about the MB - the paint, and one reservation about the BMW - the tires. Is there anything else I'm missing! I don't know which one to buy.

Somebody help me!

You need to drive them both and then decide. I'll bet the BMW will drive more to your liking but we will see.

Let us know how you make out.

Does the Bimmer have run-flats? Summer tires?

So long as better tires fit the same rims, a very good set of tires should not cost more than $600 or so.

I see you keep you car for at least 6 years (2002 model lost to accident), so the BMW will be more reliable for the long haul. As for tires, I never met a dealer who was not willing to swap out a set of tires to make a sale.

Yes, the BMW has run-flats and no room for a spare in the trunk. So if I get a flat, I'm going to have to get a tow truck unless I keep putting run-flats on the car.

Same issue with AWD Siennas, so I compromised and had to get FWD.

how are you OW,
just read some nice news on the 335xi, in this months automoble magazine, it states that the STI & EVO are great awd sedans for boy racers, and that the 335xi is more an all around better awd sedan, especially for some who would not want to be looked at as a BOY RACER.

safe & fun driving!

I am OK UJ. Thanks for the update. I know the 335xi is the keeper of the 3 for more refined everything.

That's a very immature stereotype.

It's ironic that you're calling EVO and STI owners immature...
