Hmm pink Miata for $8500 yeah, what a deal!!!

I don't think I'd be putting a deposit on ANYTHING that's not built yet. Well, maybe a Delorean or a Bricklin.... those were machines of the day!!!!

I looked at a 1964 Pontiac Bonneville convertible that was for sale locally. I think its original color was "dusty rose", sort of a red metallic. Unfortunately, it had been repainted lavender. The car had issues galore that I probably could have tolerated. But that color was just the icing on the cake. I just couldn't bring myself to do it!

I looked at the manufacturer's site directly on that deposit ad, and they did have a deposit listed for the 2009 production, but $1000 compared to the craigslist ad of $5000. Seems like a bit of a scam to me, by whomever put that thing together.....

Maybe they're fishing for deposits to see what works.

I've always been fascinated by that color GM called "orchid mist" back in 1965, the only year it was used, IIRC. I think everyone but Cadillac offered it, even on muscle cars like the GTO. It's sort of a light violet metallic, not exactly lavender.

I suppose it wasn't very popular if it lasted only one year though.

You'll sometimes see it advertised as "RARE COLOR! Very few made!"

Another case of rarity beginning caused by an initial repulsion of the buyers of the time.

Does this look like that color?

Looks like Pontiac called this one "Iris Mist", while Chevy called it "Evening Orchid". To me, the color looks silver with a hint of purple. I like it. If that '64 Bonneville had looked like that, I wouldn't have minded it, but it was just too danged pink!

That's it! Thanks, I was trying to post a photo I took of a '65 Chevy at Carlisle, but without success. Looks like I mis-remembered the name by combining the Chevy and Pontiac names into "Orchid Mist." I think your photo though makes it look a little more silver than it was in reality.

If you want to email that pic to me, I could post it on my website. I checked the pics I took at the GM show in Carlisle, but somehow I missed that car.

BTW, do you have any plans to go to the GM show again in 2009? I'm going to take my '67 Catalina convertible this time. Presuming it cooperates! If not, I'll have the LeMans again.
