Yes I do on occasion appraise collectible cars for bank loans. I'm *very* careful about those types of appraisal, too, because the bank does not want to get stuck with a car they cannot sell at loan value or close to it. Most people who contact me about collectible car bank loans are putting a hefty down on the car, so that everyone, including me and the bank, are comfortable.
Some cars/bikes under loan are just trouble from the get-go, and I won't touch 'em---like outrageous customs and Harleys. They tend to get abducted by aliens for some reason when the economy goes south.

AMG -- yeah sure it's really worth $28,000 but I'll let you have it for $12K. Sometimes people need to face up to the fact that so few of a certain car are produced because nobody wanted to buy them.

When looking for a project car the price is only a small part of weather or not to buy the car. What I feel about the car is it's more important, is the car in your blood or just something to do. So for a 1000.00 is this your car, if so buy it even if it's 2000.00. FOR THE LOVE OF THEM
