Replying to: nova (Apr 03, 2005 2:31 pm) Just a hint on getting a good deal. Go to www.vw.com in the locator look for all the VW dealers in a 200 mile radius from your home. Look in their inventory for the model you like. email them asking for the best price. The price they have listed will usually be MSRP or even higher. They are all trying to move cars right now so it is a good time to buy. You can call also. I find I get less runaround with email. It also lets you know if they have an active Internet sales department. Good luck, here is one place with lots of VW TDIs in Florida. Not sure if I will like it. It is the first car I have owned in years. If it is not what I want I will take a couple long trips and sell it after it gets 7500 miles on it. It should bring good money in So California. I will be using ULSD as it is available very close to my San Diego home.

Anybody have any experience with dealers near the Herndon/Fairfax, VA area regarding Passat TDI wagons? Noted that someone mentioned Langhorne, PA as having a good experience.

A year ago, upon seeing another "gas crisis" looming I traded by Toyota Echo (great little car )for a 2004 TDI Jetta... I really didn't expect much. My scheme was to "stay mobile" because if push comes to no gas,I could stay mobile.;.. I have a net formula and a cooker to make my own fuel, if that became necessary. Huzza! There will be no more gas lines for me!..My Jetta has performed beyond my wildest expectations and all 6'4" me has grown to luv this car.. (Except for the gas pedal being a little to close for my long legs.)..Other then that, this little car wih the turbos 24/1 cr is an engineering marvel...I also own a Honda Pilot (great suv) which I take on long trips, only because of leg room. The Jetta is my fav, handles like a dream,and I smile my way past gas stations...(altho diesel is now expensive too)..TD gives a whopping distance per gal and in the 9500 miles I have put on it calculating gas avg. 2 bucks /per gallon: I have saved $600 to $700 ...I am currently shopping for a Passat TDI.(only for more leg room)...I recommend the TDI engines. I love my VW Jetta, I'm now a believer. Thanks for your. time.. JG Florida...

Hi, i just wanted an opinion about what i paid for a Jetta today. I'm in central NJ area.   2005 Jetta GLS TDI with Auto, ESP and cold weather pkg. MSRP - $22,860 INVOICE-$21,427 PAID-$21,500 VWcredit 3.9%   I traded in a 1999 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro. Both cars are very alike especially the moonroof switch. My weekly commute is 500 miles. I think a lot of folks are going to wish they bought a diesel when gas keeps going up past diesel. Besides you can burn biodiesel in the summer. If fuel gets much higher biodiesel will be a good alternative fuel. Can't burn it in a gasser. I would have bought a Jetta Wagon. My wife liked the Passat Wagon better, so it came out of her savings account.

I paid to much I feel. I was only able to get a thousand taken off the Sticker. I paid 19.585. I did some research on edmunds and Kelley blue book. and these cars have very little mark up for some reason. Kelley list my car with a Invoice of 19,440. Edmunds says the average price is 20,3???. I am going to keep this car for 15 years, so I should recover my cost. These diesels will go for along time. About twice as their gas counterparts from what I have read on Diesel sites.

The 2005.5, sometimes referred to as 2006, is the A5 (New Jetta) version. All my dealings were with the internet sales personnel. I got every option except for the Telematics. They had to go outside the Mid Atlantic region to find the specific color (int. & ext.) and all the options I wanted, but they found it. I signed the paperwork and handed over deposit on Mon, picked it up on Wed. three weeks ago. Since that time I have put fuel in once. I have just over 900 miles in those three weeks and have just under half a tank before I need fuel again.   Overall very impressed with the professionalism with the dealership. No beating around the bush. Second E-mail from the internet salesperson quoted the price, and they never wavered or tried to tack on additional charges. Just standard Tax, Title and Tags, etc. above the quoted price. I financed through VW Bank, but will refinance with Credit Union once all the paperwork has made its way through the system. Want to buy an 05 Passat GL Wagon TDI. (Got my new Suburban in Nov. 04..just in time for the oil spike). Anyway, Ourisman in Laurel, MD quoted an internet price of $917 below MSRP. King VW in Gaithersburg, MD quoted $22,570 on a vehicle with ESP, ($2685 below MSRP and $603 below invoice) Just as I thought I found the impossible deal, I noticed on Edmunds that there is a current promotion of $2,000 "marketing support" for the dealer, in lieu of low APR financing, (thru 5/2). If that's the case, the dealer is still holding about $1400 on the car. Is this correct??? Is anyone getting a base model like this for well below invoice? BTW, a nice german sounding salesman from another dealer tells me that not only is the Passat being totally redesigned for 06, but the TDI will not be available for the first model year or more, since VW can't get them into CA and 3 other states. Anyone else heard this? I'll still happily buy gas for my 'burb while towing the boat and driving on the beach, but this car makes a hell of a lot of sense for all of my other driving, (and still can fit in spouse, two large teens and two labs!) Mechanic tells me the engine,if maintained is good for 300-400k. Is that possible? Will the rest of the car still be there? I have little familiarity with the vehicle so all input will be greatly appreciated!!!
