The price goes down as the car stays on the lot longer. Thus the price difference is age on lot. I had asked the same question to the internet sales manager.

Regarding the Fitzgerald price difference, it was time on the lot. Prices fall the longer the car remains on the lot.

The VW Jetta TDI sedan I purchased at 22,031 has the leather and steer wheels controls. Only difference was the time on the lot.

Now, is there a real reason one would pick the TDI over a regular SE? I know it is diesel, gets better mileage.

Also, isn't a diesel more dirty? also how is the torque on this car? It looks fairly hefty? Would it blow the regular 2.0T engine out of the water?

I have seen TDI's before, newer models, and they have this black dust near the muffler that appears.

I have my heart set on a Wolfsburg 2.0T

..."Also, isn't a diesel more dirty?"...

RUG to PUG 30 ppm sulfur

D2 15ppm to 5 ppm sulfur

What does the mathematics tell you? Yet INXS of 98% chose the 2 x to 6 x dirtier fuel......

You are probably one of the INXS of 98% that chose the 2 x to 6x dirtier fuel?

It seems some people like to act a little superior on this thread and forget that it is for everyone....not just diesel junkies.

I'll give a shot at deciphering for you.

Reg Unleaded Gas(RUG) and Premium Unleaded Gas(PUG) put out about 30 parts per million of sulphur polutant

The new clean Diesel(D2) puts out from about 15 parts per million to 5 parts per million.

I have no idea what "INXS" means but I think he is indicating that 98% of people still buy a gas vehicle which puts out between 2 and 6 times the sulphur polutants than the new clean diesel fuel does.

From everything I've read the new diesel doesn't smell much but I have noticed a tinge of soot around the exhaust pipes of new Jetta TDIs I have been behind on the road.

Okay, Great! Thank you for helping me with that. It makes sense.

I am really considering the car.

With it being a diesel engine, the torque seems like its pretty strong. Stronger than the regular 2.0T? That would be fun! Worth it.

Superior? No it is just the information has been repeated any exponential number of times and it seems the only ones who seem to "get it" ARE your words "diesel junkies". The residual in the overwhelming number of cases seems to be continuing dis belief.

So it is refreshing to see that "other than" folks seem to at least understand it. However that understanding seemingly hasn't done much to motivate many to ...try/switch.
