According to vw.ca web build, a Jetta SportWagen TDI with the Trendline Trim package comes to $28,985 the way I want it, 6speed dsg, esp +shipping and PDI. So I fire off an e-mail to Southgate VW to ask what kind of price they can give me. I pointed out that I would like the PDI (pre delivery inspection) waived,as I believe this should be done anyway. They agreed to waive the PDI. This is where it gets GOOD(actually bad)! Air Conditioning Tax($100) and Tire Tax($20) I knew I had to pay for,big deal,$120. Administration Fees($299), Tire Warranty and Dealer Prep($399) for a total of $698. The tires are already covered by Continental, the tire company! Somehow the price went from $29,105 all the way up to $31,900! This is almost $3000 more! This does not include GST. A few weeks back,I visited Southgate VW and asked the salesman: Where is the SportWagen built? He said: Germany. I spun around at the SportWagen I was looking at and looked at the serial#. The # started with a 3,which indicates MEXICO. When I told him this,he said: I was under the impression that all SportWagens were made in Germany. These guys should be reported to VW Canada for their UNPROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE! I also would like to point out,so there is no confusion for USA readers, that ESP, 6 disc CD and a few other items are not standard on Canadian Jetta TDI's |

Apologies if that's a lame and ignorant question, I'm sure I'm unaware of the issues involved and that you may have considered that already...

When I visited some US sites(dealerships, autoblogs etc) I noticed that US customers have 4 trim levels. The Jetta TDI has it's very own trim level, which I thought was Kind Of Neat! USA TDI's have ESP,heated seats,6disc CD player plus a few other things, as standard on a TDI Depending on the exchange rate,I dont know if I would save any money. I also don't know if I could bring one out of the USA. I know that some new cars, you can do this. eg. You can bring in this new Buick model but not this other model of new Buick, etc etc. Due to American Resistance to diesel passenger cars,I think all this extra stuff is an incentive to purchase a Jetta TDI. If I lived in US, I would not blink. There would be a Jetta TDI sitting on my Launching Pad Right Now! I should phone the FEDERALIES in Ottawa and see if a US TDI can be brought back to Canada. Do US Jetta's have the same rust perforation warranty as Canada. It is 12 years. Did you know that all the steel body panels are Galvanized and once everthing is welded up it is Galvanized one more time! 12 years is no problem.

Bought a TDI Manual sedan with sunroof and ipod for 22,365 + $80 doc fee, msrp was 23839. Easy and no hassle deal with Chris from Langhorne PA. Chris was excellent, didn't have the car in stock, traded with another dealer. Had the car in 3 days. vlapinta |

In addition,if it was legal to bring one back,I would have to pay 6% excise tax on top of this,so that would be$34,574 CDN. I have not included the GST on both these prices,so then that would be$36,303 CDN. Anyway, southgate vw emailed me and said they made a 'mistake'on their calculation and I could have it for $28,950 plus GST,which would be $30,397CDN with the GST. I don't really think those extra's are worth $6000 CDN Good deal in USA,but not here in Canada GST is Goods and Services Tax or what is referred to as 'Gouge and Screw Tax' !!!! |

I'm at the research stage on that next new car. All over the map on what to buy. TDI intrigues me, but here's problem. In this city the one VW dealer is a known price gouger, and has a poor service rep to boot. Going to a dealer 200 miles south I can get close to or below invoice, but what about service? Thats a long way to limp down I35! Will probably take a pass on the TDI due to dealer rep. I've talked to and exchanged e-mail with them, and the attitude is, Hey we're the only game around, take-it-or-leave-it. Advice? Comments? Thanks in advance!
