The "adjustment" was 5% of the MSRP. About $1,200 to $1,300.

It just sounds like part of the selling strategy.

The one I'm interested in has an MSRP of $25,060 and an "adjustment" of $1,275 for a total of $26,335. I'll start at $24,250 and see what happens.

I think you will find they are willing to deal. Nothing is selling hot these days. Some just add those premiums to catch the uneducated buyer. Those that do not research at Edmund's before heading out to look at cars. Honda did that on their hybrids and just about every new model they debut. I'd tell em to shove it, nicely.

I do not know, butI would suggest that the good deals can be found anywhere in US without a lot of variation...the main factors is knowing what the real invoice pricing is, check edmunds.com, and go even below what they say is the TMV-True Market Value...I paid less than that...because I simply held my ground until I had 3 dealers come down to the lowest...you just have to know when they whine or fib and also what is realistic when they say it is not...if you push them, nicely but firmly, and can afford to walk away...you'll get the price you want. My dealer tried everything...but I just saw through it and was not going to buy per his tactics; I was going to buy if and when they agreed to what I saw was low but not impossible or unreasonable. The key is know ing what that is. Research until you know your prices and feel comfy...and if you are not willing or able to walk away from the TDI, they will coax you to buy and use your desire of the car against you. You almost "can't want it". I bought when the deal truly was " what it would take to not be able to reject their offer". Hope that helps. With the economy the way it is, anyplace USA should want to sell...and you can use that aginst them, for a change...still without disrespecting or trouncing a fellow american who's just trying to make a living also..
