Funny how things change by chutist

A week ago they were asking MSRP PLUS for a TDI Jetta around SoCal...

Today I had a call back from a dealer that told me the "Good deal" internet price was MSRP...
Now she says "we'll beat any deal you find"

No wonder... they have 20 TDI's in stock. And they are in stock all across SoCal.

Please -> Nobody fall for the "these are hard to get" sales line! They are just a car and there is enough supply!

Not sure where you are located, but I recently purchased a Jetta TDi Sportwagen at sticker. Lia VW in Enfield, CT has diesel Jetta sedans allocated to them that have not yet been sold. I went to 5 dealers in the central CT and western Mass area and none were charging over sticker. I love the car, it drives great. My mpg has not been as great as Volkswagen leads you to believe. In the first 1,000 miles I have averaged 38mpg with a high of 45 on a 100% highway trip.

Rbidd, can you advise what colors and options are available in the cars at that dealership? I'm looking to get one wagon soon. Will only consider manuals. Thanks in advance. M

Hello. Anyone own TDI manual? If so what is the experience so far? HOw about mileage? Have you run in to the check engine light issue that I have read others describe in this forum?

I'm ready to close lease and am leaning on a 6 sp manual.

Thank you.

We are in Atlanta. We haven't bought yet, we're waiting for the economy to get worse and try to make a deal when the dealers get more desperate. In the past 2 weeks 2 of the dealers who were asking $500 to be on their call list when they got new TDIs in stock have called and offered to put us on for free because "good news, the list is much shorter now" - I bet it is. The dealer who was claiming they are getting up to $3K above MSRP (and who said future ones would be more $$$) is suddenly getting in extra cars "as a bonus from VW USA for their great customer service scores" and willing to sell for MSRP now.

I have owned a 6 spd. manual TDI for about a month now. Have approx. 1500 miles on it. Avg. 44-47 mpg. Thats 15% city, 85% highway. If you treat it gently, you will get great milage. If you get on it, it will reduce mpg. No lights have come on yet. Been running fine. The 6 spd. takes some getting use to, mostly due to coming from a 5 spd. Maxima. Everything is geard low, and requires more shifting due to close gears, but clutching is easy and light. This is my first diesel, I like it so far.

Just wondering what people quoted lately. I was thinking about getting a TDI sportwagen. This week I got a quote from a NJ dealer for $2500 above MSRP. Is this what others are still paying now? Thanks.

Send emails to every dealer in a 200 mile radius. Tell them you want their no haggle best price and will not come in until you have that price on an email. DO NOT pay anything over MSRP. I think you should get down close to invoice dealing by email.

Since I'm polite, I would just think "drop dead and eat one" instead of saying it to the dealer. Car sales are not just flat, they are in freefall. They don't deserve your business if they are going to rip you off like that. MSRP is fair and as of right now, is market price, especially for the wagons. If it's a sedan, you should be able to find slightly below MSRP if you search around. You're also in NJ, there should be at least 10 dealers within a 1 hour drive. Isn't 1 hour of driving to get a better deal worth $2500?

New TDI bought under MSRP by bill_a

Hi All,

I have been looking for a month now at a TDI, an I just got one yesterday.

09 Jetta TDI 6sp manual, with sunroof and mudflaps
MSRP $23,809 - actual buy price with dealer fee: $22,495.50, diff. of $1,313.50.

Details of deal
car 21896.5
dealer fee 599
reg 213.75
taxes 1403.86
OTD 24113.11

I got this deal through the internet department, and they really wanted to make a sale on the 31st of Oct. They removed a lot of the price to start, and it was not enough, so I was going to get a Wolfsburg at another dealer for $20,500 (manual trans.), and they even brought the price down so there dealer fee (which is high) did not affect the price that much.

So for those of you still paying over MSRP, stop, get some internet pricing and shop around (this deal was in South FL). I am happy with this deal, cheaper is better, but the economy is slow, and there are deals to be had. However, VW finance rate on the TDI are HORRIBLE - ~8%.... This I can not believe, I wanted VW Financing because I save on my lease turn-in (Audi A4), but I will pay the the extra $350 to turn in the car, b/c I got a much better rate at a normal bank.

Thanks for this site I use it to see what people are really paying, and the above is real.

all the best,
Bill A
