Acua TSX in about 4 months.

That will be good for business. BMW will be out in December also. I think I would take the 335d over the TSX. They will be priced similarly. At least $10k more than the VW Jetta TDI. Until Honda brings a diesel in the $24k range VW will have the market to themselves.

I've read somewhere on the internet - can't remember where - that the diesel premium on the TSX will be $850. If this is corect it will be $5 grand or so more than the TDI, but way less than a comparably equiped BMW. For me, an extra 5 grand for the TSX would be money well spent to avoid VW's maintenance & repair costs.

In regards to reliability I don't know if you own or have owned any new VW in the past, of course the reason i use the word new it's because you can't hold the manufacturer responsible for any abuse the car could suffered at the hands of the original owner. In our family we've owned not one but several and we have never ever had any significant problem with any of our VW's. some claim to have had these horrible experiences. and i can assure you two of our VW's are being driven by young adults and those kids are not kind to their cars. But if we ever experience reliability problems we'll be the first ones to report.

No more than MSRP by chutist

I checked several dealers today and each one had TDI's on the lot. VW Santa Monica has 20 and would sell me any TDI on the lot for MSRP.

I'm waiting and watching.... I need a car and was going Prius but if the TDI performs better, I'm interested!

I bet at the end of the month I can make a deal!

I would NEVER pay over MSRP and will never pay MSRP. I will wait I have seen them on e.bay for MSRP. I don't have to have the car with the country in this condition. They will be UNDER MSRP by DEC / 09

I agree. Gas and diesel prices will continue to drop. We will see $55/barrel oil soon, with a serious recession looming closely on the horizon (I trade commodities, and follow these markets closely).

Hybrids and diesels will experience a relatively dramatic slowdown in sales, at which time, manufacturers will begin stacking cash on the hood to move them, just like the rest of the cars they're trying to move.

Also, hybrid production is increasing, as existing production lines are increasing the number of cars produced, new plants are about to bring additional models on line (Honda's new Insight in April of '09), and new diesel offerings from Acura, Honda and other German automakers hit the market.

Auto sales are experiencing their worst decline in a long, long time. In 2006, over 17 million new cars were sold in the U.S. Industry specialists claim that only 12-13 million or so new cars will be sold in '08, and '09 may actually be worse (in fact, they're saying it probably will be).

Time is on your side, yes it is.

A week ago they were asking MSRP PLUS for a TDI Jetta around SoCal...

Today I had a call back from a dealer that told me the "Good deal" internet price was MSRP...
Now she says "we'll beat any deal you find"

No wonder... they have 20 TDI's in stock. And they are in stock all across SoCal.

Please -> Nobody fall for the "these are hard to get" sales line! They are just a car and there is enough supply!

Not sure where you are located, but I recently purchased a Jetta TDi Sportwagen at sticker. Lia VW in Enfield, CT has diesel Jetta sedans allocated to them that have not yet been sold. I went to 5 dealers in the central CT and western Mass area and none were charging over sticker. I love the car, it drives great. My mpg has not been as great as Volkswagen leads you to believe. In the first 1,000 miles I have averaged 38mpg with a high of 45 on a 100% highway trip.

Rbidd, can you advise what colors and options are available in the cars at that dealership? I'm looking to get one wagon soon. Will only consider manuals. Thanks in advance. M

Hello. Anyone own TDI manual? If so what is the experience so far? HOw about mileage? Have you run in to the check engine light issue that I have read others describe in this forum?

I'm ready to close lease and am leaning on a 6 sp manual.

Thank you.

We are in Atlanta. We haven't bought yet, we're waiting for the economy to get worse and try to make a deal when the dealers get more desperate. In the past 2 weeks 2 of the dealers who were asking $500 to be on their call list when they got new TDIs in stock have called and offered to put us on for free because "good news, the list is much shorter now" - I bet it is. The dealer who was claiming they are getting up to $3K above MSRP (and who said future ones would be more $$$) is suddenly getting in extra cars "as a bonus from VW USA for their great customer service scores" and willing to sell for MSRP now.
