It is more fun to drive although not as fuel efficient as the Prius. But the money you save over the Prius is probably worth more than the extra money you spend on gas. But if saving the earth is your primary concern then go with the Prius.

I briefly considered the Prius, by pcr

but I was worried about getting it worked on after the warranty was out. I knew I wouldn't have a problem finding someone who could work on the tC's Camry/Rav 4 engine.

And if the car takes up more resources to manufacture and has a shorter life (because of repair expense), how much better for the environment is it, really? In the Camry, the tC's engine gets a very high "green score", so it's not as if you're buying a Hummer instead.

I am like you thinking get a prius or scion tc. I almost decided to get tc but the 2 door really make me think twice. and the back seat room.

For me, prius isnt all about MPG to save money. I really like the style of Prius and the unique design. It feel very special that no other car can compare. Driving a car at 20 mph silently means fun to me.

Scion tc features are so impressive, <20K you get everything. and prius demand is so high. I havent order either but may do early next year.

Thanks for everyone's input . . . .

My problem is - if I am going to get a Prius I wanted to do so before end of 2004 - I have found 2 different dealers that for sure I can have one before end of year. One day I have my mind set on the Prius and then I think about the TC and wonder if I am making the correct choice.

I drive a Chevy Tahoe now and the gas alone saved by the Prius will pay the car payment. I spend approx. $300/per month in gas alone. I have check insurance and there will be no change going from my 1995 Tahoe to a 2005 Prius. There is a slight change going to a 2005 tc but not enough to count. When I consider that both would be under warranty - it should actually end up even better. I will be selling my tahoe out right myself - I will admit though - I will miss it greatly, I love my Tahoe - it is just not feasible anymore and I really do not need that big of a vehicle when I am the only one ususally in it.

I was hoping to have someone that actually owns a Prius or tc to give their opinion of the cars.

Thanks for all your help.

I own a tC. But why are you asking tC owners what they think? Go drive one. Either you like it or you don't.

I drove several cars (including the RSX) before the tC, and when I sat down in the car, I quickly realized that it was the one I wanted. It was plenty powerful, handled well, looked different, had plenty of room (at least more than the RSX), and fit my demands for a daily commuter.

I thought about the Prius, but realized that I wasn't interested in paying that much for a car that wouldn't have enough power for me and would require me to wait six months. I am fascinated by and admire the Prius technology, but a lot of the cool Prius features would have pushed my costs to 24 or 25K. Too much.

Go drive the cars and then make your choice. All anybody on this forum is going to tell you is that what they bought is great. A year from now, we tC owners will be able to tell you about reliability. But in the interim, what else is there to say?

Great Choice by falconone

I think the TC is a great choice. It looks like a coupe but really is a hatch. Has a great engine. It also has a great deal of standard features for the price. Take a test drive. Let us know how you enjoy it.

I share some other posters' dilemma when it will come to deciding between the Prius and the tC (a couple of years away for me). I've driven both cars, and ended up with a silly grin on my face in each case! I like the Prius for its cutting-edge technology, style, roominess and build quality. (BTW, for me the "eco-angle" is ZERO EMISSIONS even more than great fuel economy. Curiously, low emissions are rarely mentioned in reviews of the Prius as a reason for driving one.) The tC, on the other hand, is a pretty nice pocket rocket. While it isn't as hot as some people think it ought to be, the tC is built like a tank and shares the roominess (relatively speaking) and quality of its hybrid distant cousin. Cost is one big consideration in choosing between this pair of excellent vehicles. I estimate that a Prius, with the options I want, will cost some $7,000 more than a similarly-equipped Scion. Ouch!

That 7k buys a LOT of fuel. I would definitely buy the tC over the Prius if I could buy it with stability control. Oddly enough the scion B has that feature. Other goodies that the Prius has I can live without. NAV is nice but I have a portable one.

I like the tC but a few things bug me. Like the cover on the panel. Its flimsy. Things like that break and then youre screwed. The low profile tires look nice but is very hard. They dont warranty low profile tires and are prone to damage by potholes. Wont last very long. If they had a 4 door tC, that would be cool. The wind noise is pretty bad due to all the glass on top. The front grill needs some serious redesign. The lights are neat. Like a baby bimmer. I hate the new bimmers with the strange headlights. But it looks good on a tC.
