About 7 seconds, wow, not bad.

DCX vans depreciate quite fast. When I shopped I found new vans for $22k and 1 year old vans for $15k, or about 32% depreciation hit the first year.

And that's retail resale at $15k. Wholesale trade would probably be more like $12-13k.

There's no way the residuals are better. ALG has the Sienna well ahead of the DCX vans, too.

hi Hause,
wow, you are right that's an awesome deal that your grandma got for this baby. As you know I just bought the same one from toyota dealership at 5.4k more than what you paid for it. I'm so impressed. I'm now interested in the auto auction. How does it work? Did they have a base price before you place a bid. What're their fees associate with your winning bid? Does your bid include the license/registration and tax ??? We need a 2nd car, this might be where we 'd shop for it!

I think you got the best deal on this limited compared to all peaple that I know whom own one of these.

I have a 2001 EX odyssey at 125,000 miles, its on its 3rd transmission.
Transmission slips in drive
Transmission indicator light (D4) flashes on and off
Engines revs from 1-4000RPM without touching the gas pedal
Traction Control System will not disengage.

Chyrsler trans problem worse.
Toyota is 6 dB quieter in cab, I will buy one next.
There is a class action suit against Honda in Calif. over automatic transmissions.

My sister's 2001 Odyssey EX now has 98,113 miles on original transmission with NO indication of any problems.

Our daughter's 1999 GC SE has 112,600 miles on original transmission with one repair: replace an "O" ring at a cost of about $ 200.

Please stop quoting problems that occurred with Chrysler transmission 15 years ago.

I wouldn't say it happened to Chrysler 15 years ago. My aunt's 1999 Town&country limited went through 2 transmissions in 104,000 miles . Our 05 went through a transmission before 40,000 miles , then other things went wrong, so we got rid of it for our older used 04 Sienna Limited.

To SiennaXle

We got it for that price because it was bought at an auction from the dealer, we didn't buy it from an auction. We love the new Sienna even more then our 04, which was very good to us in the 90,000 miles we owned it.

My neighbor was on his 3rd trans on his '99 model.

I moved so I'm not in touch with him any more, but he used to buy DCX vans every 2 years and put tons of miles on them. Still - he never had one last the full 2 years without replacing a trans.

This was 6-7 years ago, not 15.

Chrysler's Lifetime Powertrain Warranty is nice, but it would not help him out because he uses his van for his carpet business, and I believe those fleet vans are excluded (correct me if I'm wrong).

Test driving a new 2008 Odyssey EX-L & 2009 Sienna LE by yak33

We bought our first mini today, and here's my thoughts on today's test drives. We drove rough, uneven roads as well as freeway and town driving.

Odyssey - seats slightly more comfortable and a little more leg room overall. Road noise was a bit more pronounced, especially in the 3rd row. Like the looks and body style a little better than the Sienna.

Sienna - a more solid driving feel. Engine power and transition, steering, hand
ling, & brakes were very responsive, crisp, and tight. Nice promotions and comparatively lower MSRP I believe.

So it came down to this. While both cars were clearly acceptable as minivan choices, my wife leaned more toward the Odyssey on specific color choice, body style, and interior feel, plus a 2008 discount. Since this is replacing her Ford Explorer, we agreed the decision was hers to make, although she noticed the Sienna's plusses.

That said, if it were entirely up to me, I'd have gone with the fwd-only Sienna LE or XLE for the above reasons. Regardless, I think either one represents a great value for a family vehicle.

(FWIW, we bought at ~20% off the 2008 MSRP)

Congrats on the new van!

I must say, you are the first person who thought that steering and handling were noticeably better in the Sienna. I'd have to disagree with ya; the Odyssey drives like a much sportier vehicle to me, despite having less power.

Either way, enjoy the van!

I drove 04-06 Sienna's and I have to agree the handling on them was not nearly as nice as the Odyssey. However, 07 and up seem to be much better and I really like them. They still float a bit and have more of an "American car steering" feel, but I thought it was a huge improvement and really narrowed the gap between the vans' handling. I wonder if anyone else has noticed a difference with the new Sienna's vs. the older ones (still the same body style).

I only drove the 2007 and 2008 MY vans and found that while the Honda handled a bit better, it wasn't enough overcome other shortcomings. Ultimately a minivan is a minivan and it's purpose isn't sporty driving, but to get the passengers and their stuff from A to B safely and comfortably. The larger, quieter, smoother riding Sienna did that better in our judgment.
