Ok, I think this applies to both of you.

Based on my 2 trips to NJ traffic court, you will not get a chance to speak, regardless of your plea. More importantly, pleading guilty will not even get you a trip in front of the prosecutor. You must plead not guilty and go see the prosecutor. He may ask you a question or 2, but, most likely, he's just going to inform you of the deal he is offering and if you accept or not. That's it.

I would recommend that you get a lawyer, since you seem to be intimidated by the presence of authority.

Once I had got a 4 pointer (52 in a 35) and my lawyer, who did not come cheap, had it knocked down to a 0 pointer (faulty equipment). If you need help with finding a lawyer, try the national motorists organization website. They also have a few good resources regarding fighting tickets. Or, just look up traffic attorneys in the yellow pages.

Finally, fix that defective headlamp. You do not want to draw attention by having faulty equipment.

Thank you qbrozen! I really appreciate your help. My coworkers also tell me that if I plead guilty, I will not even get to talk to judge/prosecutor. So I'll plead non-guilty. Hopefully he'll give me a reasonable fine. My ticket is $204 dollars. Does anyone have any idea how much they will ask for in order to knock down to 2-points ticket? Any help is appreciated! Once again, thanks qbrozen and Host.

no problem. i hope it works out for you.

Its tough to tell what they might do or charge. You might catch the prosecutor in a good mood and get it knocked down to careless driving, which, if i remember correctly, cost a bit under $100. Then again, that was a few years ago, so who knows now?

If you get it knocked down to 2 points, I would think chances are you'll still pay less than $204, even after court fees, etc. BUT, maybe they'll want to hit you with a 2-pointer AND a no-pointer/high-fine ticket for good measure. You just never know.

Does the first 2 points affect insurance premium by car_sp

I got a 2 point speeding ticket and I pleaded not guilty and appeared in court and made a deal with prosecutor to reduce my 2 points. This was my first traffic offense. But if I had not appeared in court would the first two points still affected my insurance premium?

Yesterday I got pulled over by a cop in NJ for wreckless driving. What happened was the cop was a few cars behind me and me and my friends were being idiots and opened the car doors while driving at the same time for a second and then closed them. The cops suspected we were airing out the car because we were smoking pot (we're all straight edge and against drugs and alcohol btw). After accusing us of smoking pot, and reaching into the car without permission and asking to look at stuff that was clearly not in plain view (glove compartment, under the seats etc), im not sure how legal that is, but anyway....after claming that a piece of mud on the console was a marajuana seed, they just gave me a wreckless driving ticket. Im a PA driver and 18 years old. I was just wondering, how many points is a wreckless driving charge, and what chance do I have to knock them down? I'm willing to pay any money (if points can be deducted by money) and willing to do literally 500 hours of community service, I just need to get rid of those points....any suggestions? Thanks

wow. well, i believe wreckless is a 5-pointer. So, OUCH! (its definitely "wreckless", right? Not "careless"?)

again, best you can do is go to court and see what you can work out.
