ghstudio,
That's good advice. But what makes looking at the dealer's computer screen truly validate that the number is valid? Being in the tech field, I can tell you that computer screens can be truly manipulated to appease whomever would be looking at the screen.

I would be so blunt to ask how their "algorithm" is more accurate than those used at KBB or Edmunds. Heck if the guy/gal can't answer that, then they are just saying that they are right "just cuz...".

redline122....Many dealers are directly tied into the auction prices so they can look at the most recent prices of actual wholesale sales. They don't use any algorythms. They also don't give you any credit for features/options or mileage...that's a myth perpetuated by edmunds and KBB. When was the last time you saw two cars on a used car lot...one with a sun roof, the other without and they were priced differently because of the sunroof? Sure...big options have some value....but most don't have any value when you are selling/trading in.

As far as manipulating screens or printed output, I doubt that anyone in the dealership is that sophisticated....they would have to adjust fonts, size, etc pretty quickly. At the honda dealer, they just brought in the printout and showed it to me.

Generally, if they have nothing to hide, they will show you what they are looking at...if you are pleasant and businesslike. If they give you a hard time...you may decide that you don't want to do business with that dealer. I have no trouble at all walking out of car dealer showrooms.

I got a quote for $38,900 + TTL for a new 2008 M35X (Technology). The MSRP is $49,815. It does not have the xenon lights, but I can probably live with out those if I have to.

Does this seem reasonable to you?

Also, can the xenon lamps be installed as a dealer option later?

The M35X seems high. I just bought an one w/tech, xenon, cargo mat, splash guards for $41,450 OTD.

I would definitely go with the M45. The M35 is fast, but the smoothness and rocket like acceleration of the M45 is no match. When I was shopping for the M, I test drove the M35 and M45 back and forth several times and try to save some $$ by getting the M35, but had a hard time every chance I test drove either - even there are some sweet offers from M35. So, I have to settle with the M45 (Paid $7k more and to date, I still think it worth ever dollar I paid). Just do yourself a favor and test both of them out. The choice is obvious if you are buying the M for its performance.

M35 vs M45 by junebug07

I guess it depends on why you are buying the car, and how much money you want to pay. I think that the M45 price is too high, but then again so is the M35, unless that price comes with 0.9% financing. I believe that there is also a gas guzzler tax on the 45.

To all of you out there with 35x prices less than 42,000, r u getting any special financing from Infiniti?

With the above advice I will test drive both and lean towards the M45X and negotiate for a better price.I just don't see a lot of auto sales at 40k or above with the current economy. Thanks

There is no gas guzzler tax for the M45. The gas mileage on M45 is rated 16/21 while the M35X is at 16/22 and M35 is 17/23. So, there is not really much difference. But, the performance gain is huge. But again, it depends on how much performance you want and how much money you want to spend / can afford.

I guess the price for any luxury car are too high if you look at what you get. With $42k, you can get yourself 2 Nissan Altima SL. Just as the name indicated, it is for luxury and you need to pay extra to get luxury. If it comes at a price that everyone can afford, it is not luxury any more. The same goes to premium, exotic, etc...
