There's still $7500 dealer cash listed on an 08 thru 1/5/08. It doesn't look like they are giving you much of a dealership discount.

I think I may pass on the M35X from the Lexus dealer. The car fax report does not seem to have anything bad in it, but I am still a little wary. I found a couple of other 2008 M35X (Tech Package) that are certified vehicles sold at Infiniti dealers and both have less than 5K miles. One dealer's asking price is $38,900 and the other $41, 500. Again, these asking prices are substantially higher the the KBB retail value of approximately $33K. In fact, I have searched many cars and they all seem to be priced well above the KBB retail. I think by advertising prices far above the KBB retail could potentially keep consumers away. I for one get the impression that dealers are not even interested in selling these cars unless they get prices substantially over the KBB retail. It seems that I should not be paying more than around 33-34K for a 2008 M35X (tech), but how do you get the dealer to drop his price by 5 - 8K? I am starting to get frustrated.

I have a OTD price of $41,450 for an '08 m35X w/Tech, Xenon, cargo mat & splash guards (MSRP = $50,885). That includes tax of about $2,330. There aren't too many left in my area (New England). Is this a reasonable deal?

i think that is an excellent price. Wouldnt hurt for asking for 41k OTD, and if he refuses just ask for splitting the difference between the two to save a couple hundred.

This is approximately $39K before taxes. It seems like a good deal since as I mentioned in a previous post most of the used 2008 M35Xs are listed for this price or higher. Would you mind telling me the name and location of the Infiniti dealer?

Thx

Redline....I know how dealers price used cars...which is why i suggested that the buyer ask to see the "trade in value" of the car....and add $750 as his offer. It's a starting point...and it shows just how much profit the dealer has in the deal to play with. Makes bargaining much more interesting when you attack the challenge from the "what did the car cost the dealer" perspective.

Since new cars aren't selling, dealers are trying to convince people to overpay for used cars....it's an old tired game that works. Sadly, many used car buyers don't even bother to price out a new car....so they can pay more for the used car than a new car (rebates/money back/financing).

You need to go to two different dealers...bargain for the used one hard...but get a best new price from a DIFFERENT dealer.

ghstudio - How do you know if the "trade in value" that the dealer shows you is not just some fabricated number as well.

Take a copy of edmunds and KBB printouts with you. When they say those are wrong and they use a different system, ask them for a print out from whatever system they use to check trade in values or ask to see their number on their computer screen.

Thanks ghstudio - that is a very good idea. I wonder if the manufacturer rebates on the 2008 are going to be extended beyond January 5th.

I noticed that a dealer in Chicago (Infiniti Gold Cost) has a lot of M35X (16 of them) with only 50 miles on each. When I checked the Car Fax report it appears that the cars were titled but never actually sold since the dealer still has them. I am wondering if the dealer did not actually purchase all of these from themselves to take advantage of manufacturer rebate before it expires. That way they can competitively sell the vehicles even after Jan 5th since the dealer's actual cost now reflects the effect of the rebate. The only problem they will have is that these are now considered used vehicles and some consumers will surely use the published KBB prices to try to negotiate a better deal. What do you think?

ghstudio,
That's good advice. But what makes looking at the dealer's computer screen truly validate that the number is valid? Being in the tech field, I can tell you that computer screens can be truly manipulated to appease whomever would be looking at the screen.

I would be so blunt to ask how their "algorithm" is more accurate than those used at KBB or Edmunds. Heck if the guy/gal can't answer that, then they are just saying that they are right "just cuz...".
