Not true. I saw a CE with a stick. The manual transmission was built in Japan, and then put into the car in Kentucky.

I have an SE with the manual and it was built in Kentucky, well atleast assembled in Kentucky. Now if the transmission was actually built in Japan and then installed in Kentucky, that's another story. From what I was led to believe when I was first looking for the manual SE, the manuals, I was told, were only being built in Japan until they got up to speed in the US but my car was in fact assembled in the US. As far as leather goes, for some stupid reason, it is not available as a factory option on manual transmissions. If you look in the brochure in the options you will see a footnote where it says not available on manual transmissions. Now, what a transmission and leather seats have to do with one another is beyond me and to be honest beyond reason. Usually you see mfrs.link one option into another, which is one way they get you to spend more money if there is something you really want but if the dealer had it installed for you with no objections from Toyota or Toyota not voiding any kind of warranty, then I don't see what the problem would be. If they can certify that the leather is OK for side airbags, then I say enjoy!! My preference is not for leather but I must admit that it certainly looks really nice!! Good luck and enjoy!!

Leather can be put in any vehicle even one 10 yrs old.
However depending on your region Toyota and/or the dealer may refuse to do so because it may interfere with the operation of the side airbags. In CAT Toyota has instructed the dealers NOT to install aftermarket leather on any vehicle with SAB. This is relatively recent within 90 days.

Just checked with three area Toyota dealers in SoCal

about installing leather. Each said no problem, they each do it on premises, and to allow a day and a half. Is there some miscommunication in some regions? This side air bag issue also begs the question of how Toyota deals with a defective front seatback leather cover that requires replacement under warranty. I find it unrealistic to accept the absurdity that perhaps the seat would then have to be shipped back to the factory to assure proper installation.

Interesting info about SoCal region. I know in SET and GST adding leather is done very often still. In CAT it's come to a halt due to the memo received.

For 2007 (and 2005-06), 4 cylinder comes with 5-speed manual or 5-speed auto. (XLE is auto only.)
The 2007 V6 comes only with 6-speed auto.

unfortunately the 4 cyl in the only one available with the manual. Based on the problems with the auto V6 I would probably wait until next year before I would even consider it to make sure they get the bugs out. I'm happy with the 4 cyl but it obviously doesn't have the power of the V6 but you are also saving $2500 or so, actually more since you car is "used", based on the cost difference and a bunch of gas.

Thanks! I will check mine out when it arrives. It's taking so long to make I think it may be coming from Japan. They are telling me 3 months. I hope to have it by Thanksgiving!
