If by "cutting out" you mean the engine stalls, that is a safety issue and if I were you I'd report it to the NHTSA so they can start an investigation. If several owners report a similar problem, it could encourage (or even force Hyundai) to take action. Then you might tell the service manager at the dealership that you have reported the problem to the NHTSA.

I just took my 2k6 Sonata in for a transmission service last week. They replaced botht of the visors. I told them that the drivers side visor had been replaced a few months back because of the problem you mentioned. The told me there was a recall on the visors and replaced them both.

Keyless entry by mrw02536

I'm new to this forum so I don't know if this is right place but here goes:

I've recently purchased used 2007 Sonata and have the following question about the keyless entry.
When I unlock the doors I notice that there is a short flashing of parking lights, however when locking the doors with the remote there is no indication.
I believe the manual says there ought be a short chirping which I am not hearing. The remote is just for keyless entry (no alarm is present).
While this may be related, I find the horn sound is not very robust (actually quite puny). Is this normal for this car?

I have a 2006 Sonata.
When locking the doors via the remote, my lights flash. In order to get the "chirping" sound when locking the doors, keep pressing on the remote a few seconds longer.

Yes, the horn is rather "puny"
The only time that it gives a "robust" sound is when the alarm goes off.

After accelerating from a stop, my 06 sonata engine light and
ESC OFF light comes on, and it acts like it is in neutral-it is still running, but will not accelerate or brake properly. I have to pull over carefully and restart. The engine light will still stay on, but it will drive correctly. I have pushed the ESC OFF button, turned on off a/c, etc. This has been going on for the last year or so, weeks at a time then nothing for months. I have taken it to the shop but they cannot reproduce the problem as it clears after car is shut off. the only way they can experience this is to either have the car towed to them after the problem occurs while it is still running, or have them keep the car for who knows how long and have to drive it until it acts up again.

The dealer should be able to read diagnostic codes from the ECU after a check engine light. These are stored in memory and are not cleared.

Yes I thought they should be able to read an error code, but the local Hyundai dealer said they are cleared when the car gets turned off, or when it is not acting up. It has to have done this over 60 times by now. I have taken it to the shop before regarding this and they were unable to help. The mfg. said they would step in but no one has said how the rental would be handled. It could be a quite lengthy stay.

Why not purchase an inexpensive code reader yourself and keep it connected until the next occurrence?

If you bring the car in after the problem occurs the codes should be there. The codes are stored and the oldest code is erased but the most recent group of codes will there.

ESC off Light by rooney6

When the ESC off light is on, what is this an indication of? I notice it comes on when braking. When I turn the car off the light goes out, but a few minutes later when the car is running again it'll come on again. It doesn't happen often, but often enough to catch my attention and it only seems to come on in the winter time.
