2007 Scion Purchase by smoder
Aug 03, 2006 (8:23 pm)
I am thinking about a Scion TC or Mazda 3 for my daughter. I love the idea of buying a Toyota(own a Lexus), however, I continue to see people posting issues with the rattle(back hatch I assume). I am amazed after over 2 years Toyota hasn't fixed this. Do people agree this is a problem, It looks like It still is. Thanks

the 06's made this year and the 07's were fine, looks like toyota finally caught the hatch rattle. Yes you're right the first year production, which was 05 did have a lot of rattles which were taken care of later in 06. The people complaining if they have an 06 are EARLY 06 models which is pretty much the same parts as 05 anyway.. later in the 06 production run, the rattles disappeared. Toyota finally caught up with it.. You should test drive an 07 and see for yourself if the rattles are gone.. that will show it to yourself

The mazda 3 has also had it's problems too, a/c units that don't work, and some other things I can't recall what it was.. the tc may have had a rattle here or there fixed with foam tape, at least the heater or a/c didn't go out like the mazda3..

Good luck with that .. . The rattles don't show up until 5K - 7K miles or so. But they are still there. The real problem it the ridiculous warranty policy of Toyota / Scion. If you ever have a problem with an “Accessory”, which is how you must equip over 90% of your Scion, you will run into the most bizarre warranty issue I ever saw. After complaining to Scion Corp about it I got the following official response. -- "Dealerships are independently owned franchises who will warrant Scion supplied accessories that become necessary due to a manufacturers defect. However, they are not required to warrant another dealerships work. If you are experiencing concerns on your dealership installed alarm, I would recommend taking your vehicle to the dealership where you had the alarm installed.. ." Unlike a Toyota where you get factory options delivered with your new car, Scion makes you have a lame dealer install them. Then you can end up arguing with the dealer service manager about who did what if you have another dealer install any accessories. The rattle I had was caused by a bad install job by a Scion Dealer. I suggest you read the Mazda 3 brochure. It specifically stated dealer installed accessories installed at the time of delivery of your car are covered by the same 4 year warranty as the rest of the car. – Wake up Scion! – I’ve sold my Sion if you didn’t guess.

Questions about the TC by rlommbardi
Sep 18, 2006 (12:03 pm)
I am going to be getting a TC soon -
1. Since all the car dealers have the same price - should I buy at the closet dealer?
2. The Wheel wells seem to be a dirt colector ... has anyone had any concerns about that?
3. The Ipod offered - is it worth it?
4. The floor mats - all weather with carpet on them ... are they worth it /
5. The lip spoiler - seems to me no a clean fit plus over hangs a bit - any concerns here?
6. Does anyone have the amber light kit offered - how is that.../
sorry for all the questions - new here --thanks for your help

1. Buy from the dealer that is known for the best service.
2. All wheels have that problem, spray cleaner from auto store works.
3. My opinion on Ipod option- not worth it. Radio plays MP3 files. Rip a CD of MP3 files or use the aux jack that is located in the arm rest.
4. Floor mats are worth it, a bit expensive but quality.
5. Not keen on the lip spoiler but again personal taste.
6. Can't help you with the amber light kit.

I have a 2007 TC. The sunroof and rear hatch problems have been fixed ( I did my home work)

Also fixed were the seat fabric issues and a new design for the radio cover.

I have experienced no problems and have owned quite a number of cars in my life. It is a safe purchase and am old enough not to refer to purchasing any car as an investment.

Any fog light works well when mounted closer to the ground.

If they look cool is a matter of opinion

tc 2006 - punctured a/c condenser issue by punita
Oct 03, 2006 (12:51 pm)
I am new to this forum, so I wanted to see if anybody that owns a tC 2006 model had this issue or not.

I have owned this car since September 05 and like it very much. But in end of August 06, when I was driving my car I noticed that my AC was not working. So, I took it in to the dealership and to get it checked. The service manager from the dealership called back to say that the condenser was punctured because a rock apparently flew in through the grill and did the damage. I was shocked to find this out! The car is not even a year old and I had to shell out $1000 on getting it fixed!!!

I asked the service manager if this was a manufacturing defect or what, and he said "that this is a freak accident that can happen to anyone" and that if I had issues with it I should call the Scion customer service and complain to them. I had to go thru my insurance company to get it fixed. I have contacted Scion's customer service regarding this issue but have yet to hear back from them. I also researched the Edmunds website and found that some xB owners had this same issue, which means this could be a manufacturing defect from Toyota.

Has anybody else experienced this issue?
