The owner's manual says no deliberate break-in is required for the tC engine. Just wondering if there is anything in particular I should look out to for the first 1000 miles.

Replying to: JBaumgart (Nov 20, 2005 6:58 pm) Another question. the mileage I am getting out of one gallon is miserable now, around 23 with mixed highway and local. Is it because of the break-in period? Should I expect to get more MPG after the first 1000 miles? |

As oil is fluid it is subject to centrifugal forces as such it is desirable to have all parts of a bearing surface well lubricated. If a steady speed is held the oil would mainly be on one part of the bearing so by varying the speed the oil moves around all over the surface. If you can damage an engine by reving it too soon I wander about fun cars such as the tC when a hot rodder kid takes it for a test drive but doesn't buy it then some unsuspecting person buys it.I guess that is why they only warranty them a short time. |
