For those of you with the continuing roof noise, and those of you smart enough to read about these things before buying ...Its been a month now since the dealer worked on my roof. The first TSB fix didn't help the rough road rattle or frame flex pop at all. The second TSB fix (from a different dealer) helped the rattle only for a couple days. On my third visit, the dealership got aggressive, keeping the car for 8 days and spending $1800 to replace the entire structure. I noticed right from the beginning that it looked a little different, particularly with new rubber gaskets the original unit didn't have. I wanted to wait a month before commenting on the dealer's success here. Conclusions? The constant rattle and headboard liner buffeting was fixed, but the frame flex popping noise was not fixed. I don't expect it to ever be quiet or sound. I may give up on it and accept it - unless the rattle returns Meanwhile, I'm being more annoyed by new noises. There's a tinny, buzzy sound emanating from the lower left dash area. I looked behind the removable breaker cover but couldn't draw any conclusions. Any ideas? There's also a very strange noise coming from the lower center console area. Sounds just like a coin sliding back and forth (for a long distance) when I accelerate or brake - but there's nothing in there to be found! I cannot even guess what or where it is. Anyone else have this problem? I got some small retribution and satisfaction last week when I had a stranger come up to me in a parking lot last week, asking me how I liked my tC. When I told him I certainly wouldn't buy one again or recommend it to anyone, he asked why. I said the car is plagued with pops, rattles and noises. May the 06's be better, but don't count on it until some reports come out.

I just hit 10k on my car, the front bumper has around 50 rock chips last time i counted (about a month ago), some of them are very large and I expect it to start peeling soon. Also it has tons of rattles inside, and the sunroof pops when I go up my angled driveway (they *said* they fixed it last time at service), but it still does it every time. The gas mileage hasn't been too great (avg around 24mpg), and the power this car puts out isn't all that great compared to the gas mileage. My 2001 saturn with 122k miles seemed to run better and got over 32mpg on average. When I turn my steering wheel sometimes I hear a loud squeak or creek coming from the front right strut, they didn't know what it was when I asked at service. The interior plastic pieces seem to scratch if you even look at them wrong. These are just the problems I can think of now. I have to admit the car does look very slick and gets a lot of attention, but for the price I paid compared to my old Saturn, I was expecting a LOT more. |

Replying to: sighon6 (Sep 25, 2005 10:45 am) The models I bought had all possible options and has been an incredibly reliable and well performing car with no weird noises...ever. It has a moon/sun roof that has never made a peep. Same goes for the hatch area. I have waited over a DECADE to find/see a comparable car be made...I thought Scion might be it but I guess not. Will keep reading though and hope for the best. It's not just Scion, seems ALL new cars are cr*p quality these days...and with Scion since it is so cheap, I think the manufacturing issues show where that money savings came from...NOW I see why Toyota went with a separate line name...to protect Toyata rep in case things didn't work out so good LOL. I still think it has the potential to be a GREAT car but right now there are far too many design flaws and manufacturing problems not yet resolved. Maybe 2007. |
