I can't motivate myself to go to a town 30 minutes away to look at a car, and you want me to go down to Tampa for one? You know how far it is from Philly?

Now, if you want to go pick something up, drive it here, then pick me up for the last leg up to amsterdam, we might be able to work some thing out!

Or maybe I should just make an offer on your Vette? That baby would probably freak my wife out. not as much as the Vandura though.

"...with the 3.8...."

Yeah, head gasket problems I'm told. Too bad the seller doesn't say. I hate it when CL ads don't give important info.

"...your Vandura..."

Ha ha if you want to give me $3k for that rust bucket, you've got a deal.

It's about 20 hours driving time to Tampa from upstate so from Philly you could do it in 15. Short hop.

It's not just the head gaskets, it's a turd. That generation of Tbird/Cougar isn't a light car. The best part is the 4.6 gets similar MPG.

When my stepdad got the 96 for my Mom, I almost freaked he got the V6. He knew how much of a problem child the 3.8 was in my 93 Taurus LX

Well, this seems to be the answer to a question I never heard asked. And someone is losing a ton of money on this deal.

Cheap. Stick. and the HOA might come after me (especially since it would be parked in front of the president's house (she lives next door))

No PS or PB. A real mans car! must be fun in traffic.

why buy one when you can get the ultimate CCB set up?

"Figure, roughly, 3K or below. But I may have to wait until after the holidays to see how much is actually available, since that will also cover our final tuition payment for my son. "

Earth to Stickguy: Buy your car now, now, now.
From a private owner, you'll have a little extra time in January, maybe, but the dealers all have their high holy days starting, basically, with Christmas.

Tax season is coming, that's whene America gets their income tax returns, aka the only time when most low-income people have cash in their pockets.

And $3k cars become $4 cars in the blink of an eye. I learned this from a local car dealer, and have had it corroborated many times, most vocally by Steven Lang over on ttac dot com.

You want a cheap car, late fall is the time, maybe up to Christmas, when nobody's buying.

Shop like the wind.

Cheers -Mathias

I have toyed around with finding a nice non-numbers matching 1973 Corvette with SB and stick. I like the smooth nose coupled with the twin bumpers in the rear. I don't care about the numbers matching because I'd drop a GM Performance crate motor in it along with a five speed. I may have over 25K in it when I was finished but I bet very few cars could catch it- especially after I tinkered with the suspension a bit...

volvo is sticking around. No way I could ever find its equal for what I have in it, and no way I could ever have a better, lower mileage, spare car.

Yes, you can buy the Benz. But its more than your budget.

I was going to suggest the Fiat $199 lease. Hard to beat that for a new car. Although you do have to realize it is a $7200 commitment overall.

1972 Jensen Interceptor

It looks very clean; in it's day it was considered to be competition to the DBS. The fact that the engine and slushbox Chrysler means the mechanicals are cheap and easy to maintain. And you gotta love the Lear 8-track...
