I guess this was before Subaru made AWD standard
Yep, that was 2 years later, 1995.
The EJ22 engine is generally bullet-proof, far more reliable than the EJ25.
At that age, though, who knows what it needs.

The Elantra uses a direct injection engine
Oddly enough, it's one engine from Hyundai that does not. The Accent and Sonata do, but the Elantra doesn't.
When when the Touring launches it will have it.

Price isn't bad on the P5. Clean ones are getting $4k at the block.
Exhaust and shifter on the IS bug me... but then there is no CAI, so ... I dunno. Could be they just went aftermarket on things that needed replacing as it aged.

D'oh!
I thought the Elantra and Accent had the same engine.

Mazda3- might as well combine some driving pleasure along with the frugality.

so what, 50/50 that it stays at the dealer and something else comes home with you?
Nah, I don't feel like paying $50k to replace it with a new truck and I highly doubt I can find another truck as nice as the Sierra for what I paid for it. It was a rare truck by Alaska standards, extreme low miles for an 07 (42k), no accidents, 1 owner, dealer maintained, non-smoker, no dogs, yeah, rare truck!
I don't think our car family is going to change much other than the Escort getting shipped out in the next few months.
My son graduates in 2 days and turns 18 in 13 days......I'm feeling a bit old these days. He leaves for boot camp in about 6 weeks.

Yeah, that's what I'm leaning towards.
Got some hypothetical parameters from the wife:
Hatchback
Automatic
Leather (or leather like substance)
Bluetooth
iPod connectivity
Silver or Grey
She'd like a sunroof, but it's not a deal breaker
The only tough one is the leather or vinyl seats. Not sure how many cars in this segment offer it.
EDIT: The Mazda 3i Grand Touring comes standard with leather and moonroof. Adding the tech package provides bi-xenon headlights. MSRP of $24K
One other thing to note .. both jobs that she is applying to would offer mileage reimbursement, so there would be some remuneration for all the driving she would do. Depending on which job she got, she could possibly do enough driving to defray most, if not all, of the costs of the payment, gas, insurance, etc.
Phone interview with the non-state job this morning. The state job app was submitted last night.

The Prius C offers fake leather seats, and the Insight EX has combination cloth/fake leather seats.
Other than the hybrids, I think VW, BMW, and Mercedes are the main purveyors of vinyl seats in mainstream cars these days. Of course, I've seen real leather that looks and feels a lot worse than the vinyl in some of these cars.

My daughter's MINI has the fake leather seats. Since she and my wife take turns driving to work, my wife has said that she likes them quite a bit.
Have been reviewing the long term test blog on the Mazda 3 that Edmunds is driving. Biggest complaints so far:
1) Lack of USB/iPod connectivity (it is a dealer option, however)
2) Crappy OEM tires that don't match the chassis calibration of the car

The Carfax shows an accident but doesn't say anything about the severity. I'm kind of tempted; I'd feel better if it was inspected thoroughly...
