Would you ever really buy a bmw? If you want one, you need to focus on that, IMO. The saab is easy to rule out, reliability, I'd get an Audi way before a saab. ("Sob" is what you do when the warranty runs out on a Saab). Camry???? More boring than the honda you just sold. TL, fine, but how many accords have you already owned?

My list: bmw 3, lexus GS, or MDX. I can't remember your current fleet, but if you don't have an SUV or wagon already, that's what I'd get.....

Oh god not an Audi.

Seriously an Audi out of warranty scares me much more then any Saab ever would. The saabs are relatively simple compared to an Audi. Parts prices are much more reasonable and depending on your area finding a good independent saab mechanic is much easier then a good Audi one.

Pick your poison Audi is either much less relaible then a Saab or the other way around.

consumer reports says one thing

and JD Powers says the exact opposite

CR is trying to predict reliability of 2010 models while JD Powers is saying what 2006 models are doing. There were a lot of changes to the 9-3 in particular between 2006 and just 2007 so that explains some of it. The 9-5 got a few changes over the past three years and the least reliable model the 9-7X was dropped for 2010.

Interesting on the CR report it says the 9-5 is the worst model for model year 2010. I guess CR knows something I don't because as far as I know there won't be a 2010 9-5 and when the 9-5 does come out for the 2011 MY it will be an all new model.

The economy is such that I have never had a BMW sales person not offer a test drive. In fact, they have been particularly accommodating all along.

From what I understand used cars are particularly profitable to boot. If you had one who walked away from you without that, that would be unbelievable.

Although the Q5 is supposedly in very short supply, even the Audi salesperson was anxious to have me try out everything and then did any number of follow up phone calls. Ditto other premium manufacturers. In fact, the only people who seemed to be fat and happy were the Prius guys.

That must be saying something about the future of gas prices.

Try following the thread a little better; I was calling a Porsche dealer located 110 miles away from where I live...

"Went to look at the M3 that the Jeep dealer had. It was advertised as dark blue but it was black. How do you make that mistake? Idiots. It also had brand new Blizzaks fitted to the stock rims. On top of all that I just didn't get a good vibe from it. The salesguy could tell I wasn't too impressed and just walked away. No test drive- why waste everybody's time?
The search continues... "

--- I have NEVER seen that. That simply doesn't make any sense whatsoever. These guys would grab any prospect by the lapels and make you take a test drive if they could.

well, if you want something not too big, but that can handle cargo, try a Mazda 6 wagon. I think those were all V6? But you could get a stick I am pretty sure.

They also had the hatch version with the 4, but the 6 is quite a bit quicker IIIRC.

good enough reliability, and should be quite a bit cheaper than a lot of the other options. Can come with all the goodies too.

Okay.. 9-3 SportKombi.. Used ones are going for $16K-$18K...

Who cares about reliability?.. this is CCBA... the car will be gone before it needs a fill-up, let alone a repair..

are amazingly inexpensive, given that they went for what, $30-40K new? Plus IMO they looked better than the current model. I have been poking around just a bit, am playing with the idea of picking one of those up. The only problem with that model is sales were low and finding a nice used one that's nearby isn't that easy. Plus, I won't buy black, which seems to be about 50% of all the used GS300s I find.

Yeah, I had these 2 crusty Scottish mechanics about 10 years ago who worked on my M6 & my (pre-GM) Saab. I asked them about buying a used audi, one said: "Beautiful cars, but God help Ye when the warranty runs out".

But I'm looking at the repair charts in CR right now for diff. years of saabs & audis. Their repair charts for 9-3's are just horrendous, 9-5's not much better. I guess my thinking is, Audi's are beautifully finished, many models have great performance, recent saabs are not in the same class IMO....but then I'm not rushing out to buy a used audi right now either......

but happy 10 year anniversary, dear Intrepid! It was 10 years ago, November 6, 1999, that I bought it. 150,000 miles and still moving under its own power!
