I bought a 95 Civic Si coupe that came in on a trade to keep my CCBA membership active. It's been almost a year since I had the Jeep Patriot. Although it's a boring car unless you're taking it on forest trails and in the bush, I find it quite handy to haul around large items, and it's very nimble and easy to park because of it's small size. If I were to replace the Jeep today (which I won't cause I still owe on it) it would probably be a tossup between leasing a new MB C230 and a VW Passat CC. Both are for under $500/month taxes in with about $2k down. But that's just dreaming for now. My aspiration of owning a beater from the 70s has been put on hold too for now Looks like after this my CCBA will be dormant for a couple more years

I had to jump on this one. Plus the managers won't sell beater trade in cars to us very often as it would be easy to curb them and make money on the side. Bad image we don't want to deal with.

I found and purchased a restored heater box for my 2002 for $250. To put that in perspective, a new fan motor costs $250 and a heater core goes for $390. The box is PnP so I can perform the transplant over a couple of days at the same time I'm replacing the radiator(and installing the 320i Recaros I nabbed off eBay last year).

A Toyota dealer near me, for some reason (not sure why they would keep one on the lot so old), has an '83 Celica GT liftback for sale. It seems to be in really nice shape (they were closed when I looked at it), paint is good, tires are new, interior looks good, it has 133K on it. And it's a stick. In '83 they were still RWD and that's also the first year of fuel injection. I have had a few of these over the years, so the nostalgia quotient is high. It's all I can do to keep from heading back over there when they're open and make an offer! I'm sure the asking price is ludicrous, knowing this place they are probably asking $5-6K. I'm going to have to consciously avoid the place for a while. How long I can continue to do so, I just don't know! But after not buying ANYTHING last year, I'm sure my CCBA quota must be at least two this year! |
