We test drove a 9-3 Arc this weekend. Midnight blue with tan interior. We sooo wanted to buy it. It is a gorgeous car. My wife had an instant smile on her face as she pushed the button and the top magically dropped down and disappeared from view. The price seemed OK too, they took off about $5K for the GM employee discount and said they would add to that another $1,500 dealer cash incentive. So, we were ready to pull the trigger.

Except for one thing. The engine. OK, we are not looking for an M3 but this car has no torque, none, zip, nada (and this is the bigger engine???). With the automatic, the car was very sluggish off the line and the engine/exhaust sound was very unimpressive, a wheeze rather than a growl. We own an Infiniti FX which maybe has spoiled us, but this car was a total disappointment. GM will be dropping a new V6 in the 9-3 in a few months, but by then the GM discount will be long gone. Don't know what to do, great looking car, great ride, lousy power...

Maybe it is just us. Jon.

ARC Price by ckingtw

My dealer has an ARC on the lot with auto trans, metalic paint and power moonroof. for $26545 with all incentives and discounts. I don't want the moonroof so I'm going to try and negotiate the price down further. For those of you who have already purchased during this promotion, any luck negotiating price down beyond advertised emp discounts and incentives?

How about the lease options. Did anyone feel the lease fees were fair or do you get hosed?

I came from a 4 cyl Accord, so the power of the linear seems good to me, especially when accelerating from about 30 to 65 when merging on. Probably nothing compared to those high horsepower Infinitis and Nissans though. Nevertheless, for the price, I am loving this car, so far.........

Wait wait wait wait... Are we talking about the same 9-3 here? The one with 210 hp and 221 ft. lbs. of torque starting at 2,500 rpm. Right? Did the dealership take out the turbo? I don't know what size ur pathfi, er, FX has, (im sure it's great though) but SAAB, of all cars is known to have great torque, especially low-end torque. What is going on here?

P.S. It's the same engine as the Linear, just a stronger turbo

The FX has probably spoiled you. This is a turbo 4-cylinder, not a V8! The engine doesn't really growl, it's got a grumble at idle but when the turbo kicks in, it's more of a whoosh/hiss. I think it's the most fun to drive when on the highway, because it has plenty of passing power, even when going 80+ mph. Believe me, I've tested that. I think you should give it another shot and take it for a spin on the expressway.

You know, I think you are right, I am going to give it another shot. The FX we own is the V 6, not the beast V 8. However, the V 6 nonetheless pulls like a ...

As I said, we LOVED the SAAB but for what we perceived as uninspired acceleration. I will call the dealer for another drive and, yes, it is the one with 210 HP that we test drove. Just for the record, I am not a gear head, I don't drive at high speeds or otherwise dangerously but I do like some "umph" off the line.

Back to the SAAB dealership it is then! So, how much are others getting off the 9-3 Arc convertible other than the standard GM employee discount?

Thanks, Jon.

If you're coming from a big v6, the 4 in the saab does feel weak-- not just because of the slightly lower HP numbers, but because of the turbo lag. Especially with the auto, it takes a second or two to get full power.

It's something you might get used to, but if you can wait, the v6 will be a *lot* better. And, although there are good deals on the saabs now, they're not unique--there have been great deals on the 'verts in the past.

Seems like an awful lot of people have leased these this month, but I can't put my finger on the actual numbers. I've dug throught the posts here, but maybe I missed something. Can someone who has leased a 9-3 this month chime in?

I'm looking for Residual for 36 mo./10K or 12K and I'd like to know what kind of Money Factor Saab is offering.

Thanks

The Saabs are made for highway power. The turbo lag makes them a little sluggish froma dead stop, but they fly when you are moving - and that is what matters most, IMO. Drive it again, and look at the power from 30 - 80+, especially in manual mode

I'm not sure what you mean about not getting incentives if you are financing, unless I am missing something. Which by all means please tell me!!

I've been quoted by 2 different dealers, one in MA, and other in FL for 93 Linear:
Sale price $24,416 w/auto trans and the metallic paint which is supposed to include the (1) Employee discount which I was quoted to be $26,894 (MSRP $28,920), and less (2) $2500 incentive (purchase). Your price of $23,900 seems to be in line with the quotes I received for auto trans only.

Questions: (1) Has anyone been able to negotiate out of the $500 extra for the metallic paint? (2) One of the dealers in FL also is trying to charge $550 for a "Dealer Service Fee", which is highly inflated. How far down have people been able to negotiate to a "fair" price?

(3) Any more insights into the greater incentives GM will have for Saab? These 2 dealers are saying they are running low on inventory for 2005 already.
